Wolves vs Aston Villa Prediction: Villa spurred on from midweek display

After securing their place in the last 16 of the Uefa Champions League on Wednesday, Aston Villa turn their attention back to the Premier League's top-four race. The Villans travel across the West Midlands on Saturday to face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux (17:30, Sky Sports Main Event).
The hosts remain threatened with relegation as they sit 18th, and they have suffered four defeats on the spin in the top flight. Below you will find my Wolves vs Aston Villa prediction, accompanied by the latest match odds and team news.
Wolves are 5/2 to stun their regionalised rivals on Saturday, but they have won just two of their 12 home games in the league.
Villa have drawn three of their last six outings in the Premier League and the stalemate is on offer at the same odds, which has an implied probability of 28.6%. The visitors have won two of their last four games in the top flight, including an away trip at Everton.
They won the reverse fixture with Wolves 3-1 back in September, and they are 23/20 (46.5%) to inflict defeat upon the Old Gold again.
Villa forward Ollie Watkins has netted 10 goals in the league so far, and three have come in his previous five appearances. The England international is the 5/4 favourite to strike anytime at Molineux.
Team News
Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera, who has been out of action since the last time the Old Gold faced Villa with a knee injury, is reported to be nearing a return to action, which would give a boost to Vitor Pereira's options in the back line.
Sasa Kalajdzic, Enso Gonzalez and Boubacar Traore all remain sidelined with knee issues of their own.
Toti Gomes was back in the squad in last week's defeat to Arsenal, and the defender could be considered for restoration to the starting lineup in this West Midlands clash.
Joao Gomes is unavailable for selection due to the sending off he received against the Gunners and must serve a one-game suspension. Mario Lemina is expected to be omitted from the squad again as he considers a January escape from WV1, and Pereira has publicly criticised his mentality.
Star man Matheus Cunha is being linked with an exit too, with Arsenal and now Villa reported admirers of the Brazilian. The former Atletico Madrid man had verbally agreed to a new deal with Wolves a few weeks ago but there is still no official documentation, which is making the supporters angsty.
Villa are going to be without striker Jhon Duran, who is on the cusp of a £62.7m move to Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr. First-choice centre-forward Watkins has been the subject of an official bid from Arsenal, whom he supports, but Villa have no plans to lose their top scorer on top of Duran.
Tyrone Mings will need to be assessed ahead of Saturday because of the knee issue that forced him off against West Ham United last Sunday. Midfielder Boubacar Kamara partnered Ezri Konsa in defence on Wednesday, highlighting Villa's lack of defensive cover following Diego Carlos' permanent switch to Fenerbahce and Pau Torres' knee injury.
John McGinn is back in contention to return to the engine room or the Villans' attacking positions behind Watkins.
Aston Villa to win @ 23/20
You may think this price is really generous for Villa to beat their struggling rivals, but they have won just one of their last seven away trips in the Premier League. That doesn't dissuade me, though, as I think they will have more than enough to beat one of the worst teams in the division.
Wolves have shipped 52 goals in 23 matches, averaging 2.2 per game. They've also lost four in a row, let's not forget, and Villa head here after an impressive attacking display against Celtic to book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Unai Emery's side will be feeling very confident ahead of their trip to Wolverhampton, and we have already seen them outclass their opponents in this campaign. Wolves took the lead in that match and led until the 73rd minute, before Villa turned on the heat and snatched three late goals in B6.
The Old Gold will be eager for revenge but mainly will look to stop the rut, which right now doesn't look close to ending. Villa will be spurred on by their midweek heroics, and I fancy them to pick up a rare away win in the Premier League on Saturday.

Morgan Rogers anytime goalscorer @ 12/5
Arguably Villa's best player this season, Morgan Rogers became a record-breaker against Celtic, with his quickfire goals in the opening minutes going down as the fastest brace ever scored in the Champions League.
He finished the night with his first career hat-trick, and so he will come into the weekend with confidence flowing through his veins, which I think spells more bad luck for Wolves.
Rogers has six goals in the top flight this term, and two have come in his last six appearances. His goalscoring form looks even better in all competitions in recent weeks with a return of six in eight.
The former West Bromwich Albion academy player has been key to most of the positive play Villa have experienced in 2024/25, and I believe he will have a starring role at Molineux.
