Wolves wolverhampton molineux scaled

Wolverhampton Wanderers head into yet another Premier League season where it looks like survival is the aim again. Gary O'Neil did a sterling job in stabilising the club last year and leading them to a respectable mid-table finish, but now it looks like it is going to be even tougher with star winger Pedro Neto having moved to Chelsea.

I take a look at the Wolves Premier League odds for 2024/25, and give my honest opinion of where they will finish.

Supporters head into another season frustrated with owners Fosun Group as once again they feel a lack of ambition at the club. Their reign started brilliantly with promotion from the Championship and bringing European football to Molineux, but since then the team has regressed and fallen far behind their top-flight rivals.

O'Neil came in last summer after Julen Lopetegui gave up due to the lack of funding available to him and against the odds was able to keep Wolves up quite comfortably. The Wolves boss has been dealt another tough hand going into the new term, though, with two key players leaving in Neto and Max Kilman.

It might just make his job even tougher in the second season. And you can understand the fans' frustration because going off what has happened in the last few transfer windows, key players who leave are not necessarily directly replaced.

Football Odds

The one good thing about this summer so far is that Wolves have still got their two top scorers from last season in Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan, so they will be given even bigger roles to play if the Old Gold are to avoid being pulled into a relegation scrap. They provided 12 goals apiece in the league, and combined they netted just under the team's total tally of 50 - the club cannot afford to lose them, especially with assist king Neto no longer around.

There is optimism for summer signing Jorgen Strand Larsen, who is a centre-forward which the team has been crying out for for some time. He netted 13 times in La Liga last term for Celta Vigo, so O'Neil will be hoping he can translate those numbers in the Premier League. Rodrigo Gomes, who has arrived from SC Braga, will look to fill the void left by Neto, and the club will be hoping that they can develop the 20-year-old in the way they did with his predecessor.

Squad depth is a problem for Wolves in comparison to many of their rivals, but I think O'Neil is very good coach who has shown he can thrive under adversity. He still has some good players to work with for the new campaign, and he will be relying on his new additions to get up to speed quickly.

There is a chance that Wolves get pulled into a relegation scrap this year, but my faith in O'Neil has me thinking they should be okay, as well as the contributions of the likes of Cunha and Hwang. I have them to finish in 15th.
