Match Result - Draw

Gary O’Neil’s Wolves started the season poorly with just four points accrued from their opening six games.

However, despite winning just one of their last five games, fortunes look to be changing for the Old Gold at Molineux, avoiding defeat in each of their last six home games, a run which includes memorable wins over Tottenham and champions Manchester City.

Chelsea have struggled with inconsistency for the majority of the 2023/24 season, with defeats to Manchester United and Everton followed by victories over Sheffield United and Newcastle in the Carabao Cup in recent weeks. Their away form has been marginally better than that at home, but they have lost each of their last three trips on the road.

Whilst they should have enough to avoid defeat, the Blues do not look strong enough to win.

Over 0.5 goals in second half

Both Wolves and Chelsea have had an even spread of goals across both halves in their last five games. Wolves have relied on late winners against Tottenham and have taken leads in the first half against both Nottingham Forest and Burnley.

Chelsea have also seen second-half flurries against Spurs, whilst they equalised at Newcastle in the first half before being comfortably beaten. The Blues have been involved in three separate 4-1 score-lines in their last five games away from Stamford Bridge, so there is no reason to believe another goal-fest is not in store here.

Matheus Cunha to score anytime

Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha is second in the Wolves scoring charts, with his five goals only behind Hwang-Hee Chan’s eight.

The South Korean will be departing for the Asia Cup in January and so it may fall upon Cunha to pick up the goal-scoring torch for the club and recent games would indicate he is capable of doing that.

Cunha has a goal and assist over his last two home games, and also has the best shots on target ratio of any of the club’s forwards, with 55% of his efforts hitting the target.

Conor Gallagher to be carded

English midfielder Gallagher has a habit of getting stuck in the action whenever he takes the field for Chelsea.

The four yellow cards picked up by Gallagher is only below Nicolas Jackson and Marc Cucurella at the club, whilst he has also been sent off this season against Brighton for two bookable offences.

And whilst he leads the club in successful tackles with 26, he also comfortably tops the table of fouls committed with 36, nine more than his nearest challenger, Moises Caicedo.

Against tricky players such as Joao Gomes, Cunha and Pablo Sarabia, Gallagher could be good value to receive his fifth booking of the season.
