West Ham return to Premier League action with a home match against Burnley on Sunday (14:00), after their 1-0 defeat to Freiburg in the Europa League. That on the surface, wasn’t the worst result for David Moyes, and he will hope for a big night at the London Stadium in the second leg, as he tries to replicate the European glory he achieved last May.

But his attention now must return to Burnley on Sunday, as the Hammers look to target a top-six finish, and qualification for the Europa League next season. They currently sit two points behind Manchester United, who are inconsistent, to say the least. Three points here is expected for the home side, so here is our West Ham vs Burnley prediction.

West Ham vs Burnley Tips

  • West Ham to win to nil @ 15/8
  • Jarrod Bowen to score two or more @ 7/1

Team News

West Ham named their strongest XI in Germany, with Aaron Cresswell, Michail Antonio and Kalvin Phillips all coming off the bench. It means there could be some tired legs and Moyes could choose to rotate some players, with only Nayef Aguerd and Maxwel Cornet out injured.

Meanwhile Burnley are without the suspended Josh Brownhill, along with the long-term injuries to Nathan Redmond, Lyle Foster and Aaron Ramsey. Jordan Beyer is progressing well, but will not be rushed back after his serious thigh issue.

Match Odds

West Ham are the clear favourites for this game, priced at 4/6 to take all three points, giving them an implied win probability of 60% here. A draw can be backed at 3/1, while Vincent Kompany’s Burnley are 4/1 to secure an improbable win. If you fancy goals, BTTS and over 2.5 goals are both priced at 4/6

West Ham to win to nil @ 15/8

Despite the Hammers’ midweek endeavours, they should have more than enough to get past a Burnley side who are struggling to keep their head above water in the Premier League. Kompany appears to have avoided the same media criticism that Sheffield United have got this term, despite posting the same points tally.

A measly 13 points is all the Clarets have accumulated this term, and they’ve lost their last three games without scoring a goal. The 5-0 defeat to Arsenal can be written off, but following it up with two woeful displays against Bournemouth and Crystal Palace is seriously concerning.

Now they travel to a West Ham outfit who have won their last two Premier League matches, scoring three at Everton and four at home against Nottingham Forest. They should be able to limit Burnley to a handful of chances, and keep them at bay.

WESTHAMTONIL

Jarrod Bowen to score two or more @ 7/1

Bowen played the full 90 on Thursday night, but with limited attacking options, is likely to start again here. He’s been deployed as the number nine in recent weeks, and didn’t get to play against Burnley in the reverse fixture. Both of these factors, plus his good goalscoring form which saw him bag a hat-trick against Forest in their last home match, make him the perfect selection to score two or more.

Bowen is West Ham’s key attacker, and with the amount of goals Burnley have conceded this term, I’m happy to back him to be fairly profitable in front of goal on Sunday afternoon. It could be another long day for Kompany.

Bowen 2+
