Two of the Australian A-League Men's in-form teams meet at the Sky Stadium on Saturday (KO, 04:30), as Wellington Phoenix welcome Sydney FC to New Zealand. It's been a terrific season for the Nix who are second behind Central Coast Mariners only on goal difference, while the Sky Blues are now firmly in the top-six picture after a sensational start to 2024.

Below is our Wellington Phoenix vs Sydney FC prediction, alongside all the latest team news and match odds.

Wellington Phoenix vs Sydney FC Betting Tips

  • Wellington Phoenix to win @ 15/8
  • Over 10.5 corners @ 4/5

Team News

The hosts are still without their talismanic forward Oskar Zawada, who has missed their last two matches through injury.

Jake Girdwood-Reich is unavailable for the visitors after picking up a red card in the 1-1 draw against Brisbane Roar last weekend, but Jack Rodwell has returned to the squad after sickness.

Match Odds

Wellington Phoenix are 15/8 to win on Saturday despite taking 20 points from their first nine home games of the season - no club has more. Sydney FC are 11/10 to record a third consecutive away victory and the draw can be backed at 5/2.

Both teams to score has landed in eight of the last 10 meetings between these sides and it's 8/15 for BTTS - Yes this weekend, and 4/7 for over 2.5 goals, which has occurred in seven of those past ties.

Wellington Phoenix to win @ 15/8

I'm a bit surprised at the match result odds here, with Sydney FC installed as the favourites. Granted, the Sky Blues are on an eight-match unbeaten run and have some of the league's biggest names in their ranks including Joe Lolley and Robert Mak, but they're up against a side with a pretty fearsome home record.

Wellington have won six matches at the Sky Stadium this season and the only club that can match their home points tally - Central Coast Mariners - have played two games more.

The Nix won the last meeting at this venue between these sides 1-0 in March 2023 and have only lost one of their last four in this Wellington fixture. They lost for just the third time this season last weekend and I think they will be right up for it in this one to get back on the winning trail.

Wellington Phoenix to beat Sydney FC at 15-8

Over 10.5 corners @ 4/5

The above odds are pretty fair when you consider both Wellington (11.5) and Sydney FC (10.8) average over 10.5 corners per game in the 2023/24 A-League Men's.

The Nix are usually on the receiving end, averaging 3.7 for and 7.9 against, a statistic evidenced in their two most recent matches where they lost the corner count 7-6 (v Adelaide United) and 10-3 (v Melbourne City).

Meanwhile, four of Sydney FC's last five matches have seen this selection land (12, 10, 12, 12, 12), so I'm happy to back at least 11 corners in Saturday's fixture.
