Mark Sochon's La Liga treble last week looked good through two legs before Atlético Madrid failed to do the business on the road at Alaves. Three weeks in a row now our La Liga expert has been one-leg short in his Acca, agonising!

Is this the week he gets a full-house? Read on for his La Liga Weekend Football Accumulator Tips, priced-up at just shy of 7/1 as of the time of publication...

Weekend Football Accumulator Tips

  • Las Palmas vs Girona - Artem Dovbyk to score anytime @ 10/11
  • Almería vs Getafe - Jonathan Viera 2+ shots @ 11/10
  • Villarreal vs Rayo Vallecano - Alexander Sørloth to score anytime @ 19/20
  • Overall Odds - 6.81/1

Leg 1 - Las Palmas vs Girona - Artem Dovbyk to score anytime @ 10/11

This weekend’s La Liga acca kicks off on Saturday in Gran Canaria where something has to give with Las Palmas losing their last five matches while Girona have lost their last five away from home.

Having done brilliantly on their return to this level, Las Palmas have given off the distinct impression of a side that has taken their foot off the gas in recent weeks with survival all but secured. They were really poor in a 4-1 defeat at Celta Vigo last time out and even rock bottom and previously winless Almería have won on this ground in recent weeks.

Therefore, this is a great opportunity for Girona to end their run of road defeats and take a giant leap towards the Champions League in the process. They are still firmly on course for a top four finish with their home form remaining strong and they were on the right end of a 4-1 scoreline last time out at the Estadi Montilivi against Cádiz, with Artem Dovbyk on target for the third match running.

The Ukraine international looks to be over his dip in form and is now La Liga’s top goalscorer with 18 leaving him in pole position to pip Jude Bellingham to the Pichichi Trophy. He averages a goal every 117 minutes in his debut Spanish top flight season and will back himself to add to his tally against this out of sorts Las Palmas side.

This is a really different kind of fixture to Girona’s recent away games which have seen them travel to three of the top five, whilst also falling short in tricky trips to play against Getafe and Mallorca, two direct and physical sides.

Las Palmas are almost the polar opposite of those teams though with their patient, possession-heavy approach. As a result, this youthful Girona side may find this fixture a bit more to their liking and I’m going with in-form Artem Dovbyk to score anytime at 9/10 as the first leg of this weekend’s La Liga acca.

Leg 2 - Almería vs Getafe - Jonathan Viera 2+ shots @ 11/10

It has been a desperate season for Almería but they’re likely to be put out of their misery this weekend with anything short of three points against Getafe seeing them relegated to the Segunda División. Results elsewhere could condemn them even if they do claim just a second win of the season.

Curiously though, Almería have not been all that bad in the vast majority of their games with a combination of poor finishing and individual errors often costing them dear. Last weekend’s match against Villarreal summed up their season to some extent with the Andalusians having plenty of the game and registering 24 shots, but still losing 2-1 to a Stoppage Time goal, by which time they were playing with 10 men following Largie Ramazani’s red card.

Almería actually rank 10th when it comes to shots per game in La Liga this season with 12.3 which is only a fraction less than high flying Girona. They do plenty of things well in terms of their build-up play and the January addition of Jonathan Viera has given them a bit more quality in the final third of the pitch.

Viera is an immensely talented player who could easily have done more with a career that has seen him star in the Chinese Super League and Spanish Segunda División with hometown club Las Palmas.

After a spectacular fallout with boss García Pimienta brought his time at Las Palmas to a bitter ending in late 2023, Viera has endured a disjointed and largely miserable season but we’ve seen evidence that he’s getting back towards his best in recent weeks with a bit of continuity at last in an advanced midfield role for Almería.

With more than 100 career goals, he has always been a player that carries a consistent goal threat. While he’s yet to open his account for his new side, Viera did manage to have four attempts last weekend against Villarreal and he may get plenty of shooting opportunities here too against a Getafe side that has only won once away all season.

I expect Almería to be very competitive in this game and I’m backing Jonathan Viera 2+ shots at 11/10.

Leg 3 - Villarreal vs Rayo Vallecano - Alexander Sørloth to score anytime @ 19/20

We round things off at the Estadio de la Cerámica where Villarreal are firm favourites at home to a Rayo Vallecano side that took a big leap towards safety with a comeback win against Osasuna last weekend.

It was two cracking late goals that sealed the victory for Rayo who are now unbeaten in four matches. They’ve been defending pretty well of late, but haven’t had a truly tough fixture since they were beaten 3-0 at Girona in late February.

This Villarreal side is sure to give their defence more to worry about than their recent opponents. The Yellow Submarine have won five of their last seven in La Liga and average 1.59 goals per game overall, which is the sixth best record in the division.

It’s only really their defensive problems early in the campaign that leave Villarreal still with plenty of ground to make up in the race for European football, but striker Alexander Sørloth is certainly doing his best to close that particular gap.

He was given permission to miss last weekend’s trip to Almería due to the imminent birth of his child. Instead, both he and his partner headed south, with his baby born in Almería on the same day the Norwegian striker fired in a Stoppage Time winner for his team.
