Weekend EFL Championship Predictions: Adams to bag again for the Saints

Two weeks ago when I last gave my EFL Championship predictions, I had a howler. None of my four selections came in which was disastrous. This weekend, I'm looking to bounce back, which shouldn't be hard as the bar is very low, but I'm still seeking a clean sweep from the second tier.

So brace yourselves, here are my selections for this weekend's action from the Championship, fingers crossed that we can have a lot more success this time around.

Weekend Championship Tips

  • Che Adams to score anytime in Cardiff City vs Southampton @ 23/20
  • Jay Stansfield to score anytime in Rotherham United vs Birmingham City @ 6/4
  • Both teams to score - Yes in Stoke City vs Plymouth Argyle @ 8/11
  • Blackburn Rovers to beat Sheffield Wednesday @ 19/20

Che Adams to score anytime in Cardiff City vs Southampton @ 23/20

Southampton forward Che Adams may be in the final months of his contract at St Mary's but he is doing his best to earn an extension, or a move elsewhere. He has netted 15 goals in the Championship this season and five of them have come in as many outings in the last few weeks.

His brace against Preston North End on Tuesday was impressive and he will be high on confidence as he and his team head to south Wales to take on Cardiff City this weekend. The Bluebirds have nothing to play for in the final weeks of the campaign. They can't go up or down, whereas Southampton still have automatic promotion or a league title to fight for.

And Adams has a huge part to play in this final run-in.

Che Adams to score anytime at 23/20 Jay Stansfield to score anytime in Rotherham United vs Birmingham City @ 6/4

After securing a huge win against Coventry City in their bid for survival, Birmingham City will be hoping that they can collect another three points this weekend when they face already-relegated Rotherham United.

There will be a change in the dugout this weekend as the Millers have parted ways with Leam Richardson, but this shouldn't make too much of a difference for the travelling Blues.

Their top scorer, Jay Stansfield, capped off the Coventry win, netting his 12th Championship goal of the season. He is the player that will surely carry the most attacking threat on the pitch in south Yorkshire on Saturday, and we fancy him to add to his impressive tally.

Jay Stansfield to score anytime at 6/4 Both teams to score - Yes in Stoke City vs Plymouth Argyle @ 8/11

Another clash near the bottom of the table sees Stoke City host Plymouth Argyle at the bet365 Stadium. The Potters are currently three points above the drop zone and Argyle have a four-point gap themselves, but dropped points here and results elsewhere could put both these teams back in jeopardy.

Consistency has been a huge problem for both sides throughout the season but at this stage, they are both fighting for their lives with three games left to go. That is why we think the sensible selection to go with here would be backing both teams to score.

BTTS has landed in 44% (19/43) of Stoke's matches this term but only 33% of their home games (7/21). Argyle's matches have seen goals at both ends in 56% (24/43) of their games this term, and it has been a winning bet in 57% of their trips on the road (12/21).

Both teams to score at 8/11 Blackburn Rovers to beat Sheffield Wednesday @ 19/20

Oh, yes, there's another big game at the bottom end of the table, and this one comes live on Sky Sports on Sunday. Blackburn Rovers welcome Sheffield Wednesday to Ewood Park currently boasting a five-point gap on the teams in the relegation zone. One of those is Wednesday, who are desperate to find another victory.

After stumping title chasers Leeds United last time out, the mood will be positive among the home side, while there may still be some second-guessing from the Owls, who really need to start showing some fight.

We think Rovers can win for the second game running here and ensure their safety, and that is mainly down to them having the division's top scorer in Sammie Szmodics, who has netted a whopping 24 goals this term despite not being a natural striker.
