Watford and Blackburn Rovers square off in Sunday’s solitary Championship clash at Vicarage Road.

With the two teams matching each other’s record of having won one, drawn one and lost one so far, this could be an entertaining, nip-and-tuck affair with goals likely at both ends.

Watford can be backed at 21/20 for the victory, while Rovers are the 5/2 outsiders, the draw is also available at a very tempting 5/2.

Watford vs Blackburn Prediction

  • Draw @ 5/2
  • Over 3.5 goals @ 9/4

Team news

Watford’s new Danish forward Mileta Rajovic may be handed his debut after he joined from Swedish club Kalmar on a five-year deal recently.

Ismael Kone, Yaser Asprilla and Giorgi Chakvetadze are among those who will all hope to start as boss Valerien Ismael may make changes in an attempt to get the Hornets firing again.

Left-back James Morris, who went off against Stoke City last time out with suspected cramp, is expected to be fit to feature.

For Rovers, right-back Callum Brittain is set to replace the suspended Harry Pickering, but forward Niall Ennis is out with a knee injury that may mean he is absent until after next month’s international break.

Sam Gallagher could come into Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side up front, with Harry Leonard’s position in the starting XI looking vulnerable.

Draw @ 5/2

Looking at the respective records of the two sides after three games, it seems wise to suggest this clash could end all square, although we should expect entertainment and goals at both ends.

Indeed, a correct score bet of 2-2, on offer at 12/1, may well tempt some punters.

Respective managers Ismael and Tomasson will be targeting promotion back to the top-flight and they will set their teams up to attack each other.

Watford may not have scored in their last two matches in the Championship, but showed enough intent in the final third on the opening day when they hammered QPR 4-0 to prove that, at home, they will usually take the game to their opponents.

Rovers, too, have scored enough goals so far – five – to underline their ambitions to be progressive and adventurous under Tomasson so it would be no surprise if these two ended up cancelling each other out.

Over 3.5 goals @ 9/4

This is a fixture that usually produces goals. In the past 24 meetings, there hasn’t been a single goalless draw and, over that period, 77 goals have been scored when the Hornets and Blackburn have locked horns at an average of 3.2 goals per game.

With Watford hitting four on the opening day against Rangers and Blackburn managing to score in all three of their outings so far with a total of five, we should expect plenty of goals on Sunday.
