Valencia welcome Celta Vigo to the Mestalla Stadium on Wednesday evening (19:00) in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey.

The hosts have been on a decent run of late with three wins on the spin in La Liga, while Celta Vigo are continuing to look over their shoulder as they are just two points above the relegation zone.

Valencia have won this competition eight times in their history, the last time being in the 2018-19 season as they defeated Barcelona in the final. Celta Viga are yet to taste glory in the Copa del Rey but they have been the runners-up on three occasions with their last final appearance taking place in 2000-01.

Team News

Valencia duo Selim Amallah and Mouctar Diakhaby are unavailable due to their participation at the Africa Cup of Nations. Andre Almeida remains out of action with a back issue.

The visitors have two players in the treatment room currently in Franco Cervi and Joseph Aidoo. Jonathan Bamba is also partaking in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Valencia to win in 90 minutes @ 6/5

There are two reasons why we like this selection. The first is the fact that Valencia are on a winning run in La Liga which has set them up nicely for this cup tie. They have beaten Rayo Vallecano, Cadiz and Villarreal, scoring eight goals in that run. It is also four victories in a row across all competitions when adding their previous Copa del Rey win over FC Cartagena.

Valencia also earned a point against Barcelona just before this streak began and so their confidence has been sky-rocketing in recent weeks and it is difficult to bet against them right now.

The same can't be said for Rafa Benitez's Celta Vigo, however, which leads us on to reason number two. They have won just three of their 20 appearances in La Liga this term and find themselves hovering just above the relegation zone. Two of their three wins have come in their last five which is giving them hope that they can pull themselves away from danger, but for a club in that position, a cup run isn't seen as a priority.

Benitez's full focus will be on ensuring his side do not get relegated and he may rest some key players against Valencia ahead of their league clash with Real Sociedad on Saturday.

Valencia to win in 90 minutes at 6/5

Over 2.5 goals @ 6/5

We like the look of this market for this cup tie because the hosts have been having fun in front of goal in recent weeks. With 10 goals scored in their last four outings in all competitions, Ruben Baraja's men will be relishing this round of 16 clash with league strugglers Celta Vigo, who themselves have scored in their last five matches.

Valencia have managed over 2.5 goals themselves in their last two matches in La Liga, scoring three against Villarreal and then four against Cadiz. If their attackers are in the same frame of mind against Celta Vigo, they could have another profitable evening in front of goal against a side that has conceded 30 goals in the league.

The visitors will bring their own goal threat to the table, however. Striker Anastasios Douvikas, who scored braces in the last two rounds of the Copa del Rey to make him the joint-top scorer in the competition, could be unleashed by Benitez to disrupt Valencia's form.

Over 2.5 goals at 6/5
