Two sides yet to be beaten at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup meet in the Round of 16 at the Al Janoub Stadium on Tuesday (KO, 11:30), as Uzbekistan and Thailand eye a quarter-final clash with hosts Qatar or Palestine.

Uzbekistan sealed their place as runners-up to Australia in Group B with a 0-0 draw against the Socceroos, and they can take confidence from the two clean sheets they recorded against Syria (0-0) and India (3-0) beforehand.

Thailand went one better than the White Wolves, finishing behind Saudi Arabia in Group F without conceding a goal. The War Elephants beat Kyrgyzstan 2-0 before back-to-back goalless draws with Oman and Saudi Arabia.

Uzbekistan vs Thailand Betting Tips:

  • Uzbekistan to win to nil @ 11/8
  • Uzbekistan to win & under 2.5 goals @ 21/10

Team News

Uzbekistan head coach Srečko Katanec made three changes to his starting XI for the Central Asian nation's final group fixture against Australia. In came Zafarmurod Abdurakhmatov, Abdulla Abdullaev and Khojimat Erkinov for Abdukodir Khusanov, Sherzod Nasrullaev and Jaloliddin Masharipov.

Azizbek Turgunboev came off the bench for the third consecutive game and scored his side's equaliser, so the 29-year-old will be looking for a start on Tuesday.

There could be bad news for fellow forward Igor Sergeyev, though, who plays his football in Thailand with Pathum United. Sergeyev, who scored against India, limped off against the Socceroos and is now a doubt for their Round of 16 tie.

Meanwhile, there could be several changes to the Thailand starting XI from the one that began the match against Saudi Arabia. Head coach Masatada Ishii made full use of his squad in that fixture, handing first starts of the tournament to 11 players.

Supachai Jaided, Thailand's only scorer in Qatar so far after bagging a brace against Kyrgyzstan, is among those certain to regain his spot.

Match Odds

It's no surprise to see Uzbekistan, 45 places higher than their opponents in the FIFA World Rankings, priced at 8/15 favourites to win the match inside 90 minutes on Tuesday, with a victory for Thailand at 9/2.

The draw, which would send the tie to extra-time in Al Wakrah, is available at 13/5 while it's 11/10 if you back both teams to score.

Uzbekistan to win to nil @ 11/8

Uzbekistan started the tournament off in uncertain fashion as they fired blanks in a goalless draw with Syria, but they started to get into the groove in a 3-0 victory over India that saw all goals scored inside the first-half, and a 1-1 draw with Australia - who reached the Round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup - has further underlined their credentials as one of the dark horses in Qatar.

Against a goal-shy Thailand, who only managed four shots - none on target - against Saudi Arabia, they should be able to get the job done on Tuesday without the need for extra-time, and with a third clean sheet under their belts.

Uzbekistan to win & under 2.5 goals @ 21/10

The Turanians are clear favourites to win in Al Wakrah, but that doesn't mean it will be a walkover.

Thailand have proven to be a tough nut to crack for three teams already, with even Saudi Arabia - managed by Premier League and European Championship winner Roberto Mancini - unable to plot a way past the Southeast Asian outfit.

There's more on the line for Uzbekistan on Tuesday, so they should succeed where others have failed so far, but Thailand can keep the scoreline respectable.
