After an interesting knockout play-off round, we finally know the final 16 of the Uefa Champions League and the last 16 draw has now been made. It’s been a long and convoluted process to get to this stage, with half the teams playing at least 10 matches just to get here, rather than the usual six.

Player welfare and fixture congestion doesn’t seem to be taken into account by Uefa, but that’s an argument for another time. Now we know which European giants will be colliding on their way to the final in Munich, it’s time to take a look at the Champions League Winner Odds.

The last 16 of the Champions League is headlined by a mouthwatering Madrid derby as Real Madrid host Atletico for a place in the quarters. The kings of this competition have 14 European titles to their name, and having beaten Atleti in two finals already, Los Blancos will be desperate to keep their rivals well away from their first UCL title.

Atleti finished fifth in the league phase while Real had to overcome Manchester City over two legs in the play-off, but they looked incredibly strong as a Kylian Mbappe hat-trick downed Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions. City had been favourites at the start of the season, but they are now out of the competition meaning that Real Madrid are the new favourites at 7/2.

Elsewhere, Liverpool’s reward for winning the group phase is a tough tie against PSG, who smashed Brest 10-0 on aggregate in their play-off tie. That should be a belting tie, and we also can now begin to plot out each team’s path to the final. If Liverpool do progress, they could set up a quarter-final meeting with Aston Villa, who have the easiest draw on paper, up against Club Brugge.

Club Brugge finished 24th in the group phase, picking up 11 points from eight fixtures, but three of those points came against Aston Villa as they won 1-0 at home. Another flaw of the new Champions League system then.

Elsewhere, Benfica face Barcelona having lost 5-4 in that thrilling group phase match, Borussia Dortmund face Lille and there’s an all-German tie between Bayern Munich and domestic champions Bayer Leverkusen. The pair drew 0-0 in the Bundesliga last weekend and are the top two teams in Germany right now, so that should be an intriguing contest with Bayern priced at 7/1 to go all the way.

Feyenoord face Inter Milan in the other last 16 tie, and the winner of that one will face one of those German giants. Barcelona’s route to the semi-final has opened up as they face Benfica and then the winner of Borussia Dortmund vs Lille, while an Arsenal vs Liverpool semi-final is a possibility if the English clubs reign supreme, although there cannot be an all-English final.

An El Clasico final remains on the cards though, with Real Madrid and Barcelona the two favourites to reach the showpiece event in Munich.
