Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea Prediction: Spurs can salvage something on Sunday

Tottenham Hotspur and head coach Ange Postecoglou are under huge pressure coming into Sunday's Premier League clash with Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (16:30, Sky Sports Main Event) having won just one of their last six games in all competitions. The same can't be said for their London rivals, who are unbeaten in their last seven matches.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea Betting Tips
Team News
Tottenham Hotspur could be boosted by the return to fitness of central defender Cristian Romero, who has missed the club's last four games. His return would be timely following the injury sustained by stand-in Ben Davies in Thursday's 1-0 loss at AFC Bournemouth.
Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven, Richarlison and Wilson Odobert are all ruled out through injury, however, while Rodrigo Bentancur is still suspended.
Spurs skipper Son Heung-min should start after being restricted to a substitute role in midweek.
Chelsea are expected to be without Wesley Fofana again, as well as Reece James and Omari Kellyman.
Blues head coach Enzo Maresca made changes to his starting XI in midweek, handing opportunities to the likes of Filip Jorgensen, Joao Felix, Christopher Nkunku and Tosin Adarabioyo, but regular first-teamers Robert Sanchez, Levi Colwill, Pedro Neto and Nicolas Jackson are expected to be restored to the lineup from the off this Sunday.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea Odds
Tottenham are 11/5 to exact revenge on Chelsea for last year's controversial 4-1 hammering at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where the hosts had two players sent off. Those odds give the north Londoners an implied win probability of 31.3%, while the Blues are 11/10, or a 47.6% chance, to win a fourth consecutive Premier League game.
The draw is priced at 3/1, both teams to score at 1/3, and over 3.5 total goals at 5/6.
Chelsea star Cole Palmer is 23/20 favourite in the anytime goalscorer market, followed by teammate Jackson (6/4) and Spurs ace Dominic Solanke (13/8)
Match Result & Both Teams to Score - Draw & Yes @ 16/5
I can understand why Chelsea have been installed as favourites to claim all three points at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Blues, heading into the weekend, were second in the Premier League table and unbeaten since losing 2-1 at leaders Liverpool on October 20, while the only other side to beat them in the competition season are reigning champions Manchester City - and that was on the opening weekend in August.
Spurs have looked a shell of their best selves since thrashing Man City 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium on November 23, drawing at home with AS Roma (2-2) and Fulham (1-1) before falling to defeat at Bournemouth on Thursday. The post-match reactions of supporters told us everything we needed to know about the feeling around the club at present.
Saying all that, Spurs have, generally, done the business in big games this season. Okay, there was the north London derby defeat at home to Arsenal (0-1) on September 15, but they've since beaten Manchester United (0-3) at Old Trafford, smashed West Ham United 4-1 at home, beaten City home (2-1) and away (0-4) - in the Carabao Cup and Premier League, respectively - and disposed of Aston Villa 4-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. When Spurs turn it on, they are a sight to behold.
Chelsea are in rampant form but I do think Sunday's hosts can avoid defeat on Sunday, easing - somewhat - some of the pressure on Postecoglou. Maresca's men have won at the likes of Southampton and Leicester City in recent weeks but lost to Liverpool at Anfield, suffered a 2-0 defeat at Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup, and were held to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford against Man United.
It would be a surprise if both teams didn't score, though, with 71 per cent (10) of Chelsea's 14 league games this season seeing at least one goal for either side, while 71 per cent (five) of Spurs' seven home matches have seen BTTS - Yes land.

First Goalscorer - Nicolas Jackson (CHE) @ 11/2
Despite scoring 14 times in his maiden Premier League campaign in 2023/24 which included four goals against Spurs - who can forget the hat-trick at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium? - Jackson came into the new season under pressure, with many questioning his credentials as Chelsea's number-one striker.
The Senegal international has emphatically answered his critics, netting eight times so far this term - only four players have scored more.
Impressively, six of his efforts have been the opening goal of the match, including his last three against Aston Villa, Leicester and Newcastle.
We saw last season how Jackson exposed Spurs' high defensive line, and even though that came against a side reduced to nine men, it's something we could see again this Sunday, and very early on.
