Tottenham Hotspur return to Premier League action on Wednesday night (19:30) having been dumped out of the FA Cup by Manchester City last time out.

They host Brentford in the Premier League as the Bees, now led by Ivan Toney, look to drag themselves away from danger. Below we have previewed the game and come up with a couple of betting selections.

Tottenham vs Brentford Tips

  • Tottenham to win and BTTS @ 9/5
  • James Maddison to score anytime @ 15/8

Team News

After coming off the bench against Manchester City, Tottenham’s creator-in-chief James Maddison looks set to make his first Premier League start since the 6th November. That will be a key boost for Ange Postecoglou, who is still without Heung-min Son, Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma due to international commitments.

Brentford will hope to welcome back Christian Norgaard to the squad for this one after Thomas Frank’s squad enjoyed an 11-day break between matches after the Bees’ early FA Cup exit. Yoane Wissa, Frank Onyeka and Sama Ghoddos all remain on international duty.

Match Odds

Tottenham are 4/7 to win this match, while Brentford are 7/2 for the win. A draw can be backed at 3/1, BTTS is 8/15 and over 2.5 goals is 1/2

Tottenham to win and BTTS @ 9/5

Tottenham may not have got through in the FA Cup but there is the feeling that the end of January will mark the end of their injury crisis. Maddison’s return is absolutely pivotal, while Son, Sarr and Bissouma should all return in early February, massively boosting Postecoglou’s options.

Their squad depth has slightly let them down over the past two months, however, they are still 5th in the league and well in with a shot at Champions League qualification. Interestingly, the loss against Man City was the first time Spurs have failed to score in any game under their new Australian manager and they have been one of the most entertaining sides to watch, anywhere in Europe.

Both teams have scored in eleven of their last 12 Premier League encounters so I’m not worried about that half of the bet, while I just believe on home soil Spurs should see off a Brentford side that has leaked goals this term. It should be a cracking encounter, but I’m backing the home side to come out on top.

James Maddison to score anytime @ 15/8

His name has already been mentioned throughout this piece but it is impossible to overstate just how important Maddison is to this Tottenham team. He was so good at the start of the season, registering three goals and six assists in just 11 league matches prior to his injury. He should be able to pick up where he left off and against a weak Brentford side, I’m backing him to return with a goal.

He’s the chief set-piece taker and, in the absence of Son, could even be on penalties. He’ll also carry that goalscoring burden and so we should see him take even more shots at goal. I like the look of Maddison to score anytime at 15/8.
