Unfortunately for fans of the MLS, the league announced earlier this week that Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez will both miss the All-Star game against Liga MX, due to injury. If you're unfamiliar with the All-Star game, it's held in different host cities each iteration, and the 2024 match will take place at Lower.com Field, the home of defending champions Columbus Crew. It pits 29 players from the MLS, selected through various ways, up against the best that Mexico's top tier has to offer.

Elsewhere, the Women's Olympic Football Tournament gets underway on Thursday, with some big hitters involved. Defending champions Canada take on New Zealand, while host nation France are in action against Colombia, and betting favourites USA will begin their quest for gold against Zambia.

There's also some action closer to home in European qualifiers on Thursday. Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock face Cercle Brugge in the first leg of their Europa League second round qualifying clash, while St. Patrick's Athletic lock horns with FC Vaduz and St. Mirren take on Valur for a chance to reach the third qualifying round of the Europa Conference League.

Finally, the U19 European Championship reaches its final-four stage in Northern Ireland, as defending champions Italy face Spain in one semi-final, and later on in the evening France will face Ukraine for a place in the final. Norway and Turkey are also in action in a play-off contest, as both sides fell short in their attempts to qualify for the knockout stages but a third-placed finish can result in qualification for the Fifa U20 World Cup.
