Switzerland vs Slovenia Prediction: Both teams to score at St. Jakob-Park

Switzerland thrashed Kosovo 4-0 in their opening 2026 World Cup qualifier last Friday, and next up for Nati is a Monday night (19:45 BST) game against Slovenia, who came from behind twice to draw 2-2 with Sweden in their first match of Group B.
Below are my Switzerland vs Slovenia predictions, complete with all the latest team news and match odds, ahead of this meeting at St. Jakob-Park in Basel.

Team News
Murat Yakin could name the same Switzerland starting XI on Monday, with their goalscorers against Kosovo, Manuel Akanji, Breel Embolo (x2) and Silvan Widmer, all looking to make positive impacts again in Basel.
Switzerland vs Slovenia Stats
- Zan Karnicnik (SLV) has been booked in three of his seven league apps this term
- Switzerland have scored in their last eight games, netting 21 times (BTTS-Yes has landed 6/8)
- Slovenia have scored in six of their last eight (BTTS-Yes has landed 4/8)
Slovenia boss Matjaz Kek could consider handing a start to Swansea City striker Zan Vipotnik, who came off the bench and scored their second equaliser against Sweden. Andraz Sporar could drop to the bench to make way for Vipotnik.
Switzerland have won their last four games and are 4/9 to make it five consecutive victories on Monday, implying a 69.2% probability of success, while Slovenia, unbeaten in their last six, are 6/1, or a 14.3% chance, to claim their first win in Switzerland since beating Nati 1-0 at St. Jakob-Park in June 2001.
Stade Rennais striker Embolo (6/5) heads the anytime goalscorer market, with Manchester United summer signing Benjamin Sesko (11/4) first up for the visitors.
Player to Receive a Card - Zan Karnicnik (SLV) @ 16/5
Slovenia right-back Zan Karnicnik has been booked three times in seven PrvaLiga appearances for club side NK Celje this season, including twice in his last three, heading into the international break.
The 30-year-old avoided a caution in Friday's stalemate with Sweden, but he may be in for a tougher night on Monday up against Switzerland winger Dan Ndoye, who was fouled, on average, 3.4 times per game in last season's Serie A before joining Nottingham Forest this summer.
Ndoye was fouled six times across two Uefa Nations League matches for Switzerland last year, and Serbia right-wing-back Kosta Nedeljkovic was booked for upending the 24-year-old in the penalty box last October.
Karnicnik could suffer on Monday in the same way Nedeljkovic did in Leskovac last autumn.

Both Teams to Score - Yes @ 1/1
Switzerland have scored in their last eight internationals, racking up 21 goals in that run, and they've struck exactly four times in their last three.
Slovenia, meanwhile, have scored in six of their last eight, only blanking (in regulation time) in a tense two-legged Nations League tie with Slovakia in March - and they found the net in extra time of the second leg.
Both teams have scored in their last two games, with four goals exchanged with Sweden last Friday.
Switzerland have kept back-to-back clean sheets in 4-0 wins over the USA and Kosovo, but Slovenia should put up a much stronger fight than those two nations.
Luxembourg managed to breach Nati's defence in St. Gallen earlier this year, while Mexico (x2) and Northern Ireland have also scored against the Swiss in 2025. Prior to their victories over the USA and Kosovo, Switzerland had gone 10 games without a clean sheet.
I'm backing an entertaining tussle on Monday, with both teams scoring.
