There’s a full raft of Championship fixtures midweek and the televised game on Tuesday night is between Stoke City and Southampton. We’ve previewed the match and given you our suggested selections to follow.

Stoke vs Southampton Betting Tips

  • Southampton to win – 6/4
  • Adam Armstrong first goal scorer – 11/2

Both Stoke City (13/8) and Southampton (6/4) come in to this Championship match off the back of much needed wins at the weekend.

Alex Neil’s came from 2-0 down, to secure a 3-2 win at Ashton Gate and put an end to a winless five game run.

After spending a decent amount of money on bulking up the squad in the summer, questions were beginning to be asked and that comeback victory will have relieved some of the pressure, for now.

Saints also picked up a terrific win over in-form Leeds United, after a torrid run of results and four straight losses.

Russell Martin had overseen huge defeats to both Sunderland and Leicester, after an initial positive four-game unbeaten start to the season.

That 3-1 result over the Yorkshire side should help to bolster confidence on the south coast and provide some impetus to a side expecting automatic promotion straight back to the Premier League.

Team news

Neil is without as many as five players, including striker Tyrese Campbell, Enda Stevens and Ryan Mmaee. Junior Tchamadeu and Luke McNall could be brought into the side, in an effort to sure up a shaky looking backline.

Ross Stewart and Jack Stephens remain unavailable for Saints but Che Adams could be brought back into the starting line up, probably for Carlos Alcaraz.

Southampton to win – 6/4

I initially earmarked this match as a nailed on draw, with both sides playing some good football but inconsistently.

However, that impressive win over Leeds has given me the belief that Southampton can start to go on a run in the second tier and start moving back towards the play offs.

Both sides look extremely open at the back but I feel that Saints have more firepower in the form of Adams, Armstrong and Sulemana and they will prevail by the odd goal.

Adam Armstrong first goal scorer – 11/2

Armstrong is having a terrific season back at Championship level and is showing the sort of prowess he did at Blackburn, when scoring 28 goals in the 2020/21 season.

That form earnt Armstrong a big £15m move to St Mary’s but the diminutive striker was unable to replicate the goals in the top flight.

However, seven goals in nine games this term show that the 26-year-old has plenty of threat at this level and will score at will.

Betfred are running their famed Double Delight / Hat-Trick Heaven offer on this match, meaning that if Armstong scores first and then nets again, you will be paid at double the odds (11/1). If he grabs a hat-trick, you will be paid out at a whopping 16/1!

He scored first and then netted a brace against Leeds last time out and could do again here.
