We’ve got some League 1 action coming our way on Tuesday night as Stevenage host Bolton Wanderers at the Lamex Stadium (19:45, Sky Sports+). Alex Revell has seen his side fall to defeats in their last two outings and will hope to arrest their slide down the table with an impressive home performance.

Meanwhile, Bolton are beginning to shift upwards and secured a 1-0 win over Peterborough last time out. They’ll need another three points here to put the pressure on the top six, so below you can find my Stevenage vs Bolton Wanderers prediction.

Stevenage vs Bolton Betting Tips

  • Bolton Wanderers to win @ 5/4
  • Dion Charles to score anytime @ 15/8

Team News

Stevenage are seemingly in the middle of an injury crisis with first-teamers Nathan Thompson, Dan Sweeney, Louis Appere and Charlie Goode all out injured. On the positive front for Revell however, goalscoring centre-back Carl Piergianni and holding midfielder Louis Thompson should both come back into the starting XI after their suspension.

After amassing just one shot on target in the away defeat to Rotherham, the manager may choose to choose the energetic Aaron Pressley up front, or perhaps Tyreece Simpson in place of Jamie Reid. Goals are the order of the day for this tough home test.

Meanwhile, Ian Evatt has also been struggling with several injury issues. The big question mark is over Nathan Baxter, as the goalkeeper is edging closer to a return, but it remains to be seen whether he will be chosen to play in this fixture. There’s also doubt surrounding Kyle Dempsey after the midfielder missed the win over Peterborough with a knee issue.

With Gethin Jones, George Thomason, Carlos Mendes Gomes and Jordi Osei-Tutu already out, Evatt will be hoping for a bit of luck in the physio room to boost his options. Klaidi Lolos’ late winner v Posh could have earned him a place in the starting XI, while Dion Charles may come back into the side to lead the line.

Stevenage vs Bolton Odds

Stevenage are priced at 2/1 to win this game, with Bolton available at 5/4. That gives the away side an implied win probability of 44%, while the draw can be backed at 21/10. Over 2.5 goals is 1/1 and BTTS is 4/5.

Bolton Wanderers to win @ 5/4

This is a fairly straightforward selection in my opinion. I’m pretty bullish on Bolton this season, and believe them to be automatic promotion contenders under Evatt, so I was taken aback slightly by their slow start to the season. They were play-off finalists last term and haven’t changed a whole lot since then, so I’d expect them to be there or thereabouts once again.

The slow start has finally turned around and out of their last seven league matches, they only lost once - away to league leaders Birmingham City. They dominated the match against Peterborough and deservedly got a late winner last time out, so I believe they’ve really turned a corner in recent weeks.

I like Revell as a manager but ultimately, Stevenage are some way off Bolton at this present moment in terms of individual quality. I think we will see an away win.

Dion Charles to score anytime @ 15/8

Having been surprisingly dropped in midweek, I’m backing Bolton’s main man to get back amongst the goals against Stevenage. The Trotters were dominant but wasteful at the weekend and things certainly improved when Charles was chucked on, even if he didn’t score the goal himself.

I don’t foresee Evatt leaving him on the bench for two successive matches and given Bolton have been relatively prolific of late I think they will find the net a few times here. Charles should be back on the scoresheet in a Wanderers win.
