The Europa League returns on Thursday night as Sporting CP look to secure their place in the last 16, having beaten Young Boys 3-1 in the first leg of this tie.

Ruben Amorim’s side look unstoppable at the minute and are tussling it out with Benfica for the Liga Portugal title, but they’ve also got a great chance in this competition. Below we take a look at this fixture and put forward a couple of betting selections.

Sporting vs Young Boys Tips

  • Sporting to win and BTTS @ 8/5
  • Viktor Gyokeres to score anytime @ 5/6

Team News

It looks like there will only be a couple of changes from both sides heading into the second leg. Amorim will be delighted with the first leg showing from his side, but could welcome back Sebastian Coates to the defence after he missed the away win through injury. The dynamic attacking trio of Viktor Gyokeres, Francisco Trincao and Pedro Goncalves should all start, although expect them to be taken off at some point, if they put the tie out of reach.

Mohamed Camara was sent off in the first leg so will be suspended for this one for the visitors, while Loris Benito, Filip Ugrinic and Kostriot Imeri all remain out injured. Cedric Itten is likely to lead the line again as Young Boys target an unlikely turnaround.

Match Odds

Sporting are the heavy favourites for this one, priced at 4/11 for the win. Meanwhile, Young Boys are 6/1, a draw is 9/2 and BTTS is 4/6 and over 2.5 goals is 4/9

Sporting to win and BTTS @8/5

Despite their first leg lead, I can’t see the hosts easing off here. Sporting are in flying form, have won 11 of their last 12 matches and will not want to lose any momentum as they target the last-16. With Amorim and Gyokeres, this is a competition I believe they can go far in, and after that first leg success, they should have no problem in sweeping Young Boys aside once again.

To make the odds a little more tempting, we’ve added BTTS to the home win. Both teams have scored in six of Sporting’s seven Europa League matches this term and if they do substitute their stars late on, there’s a chance Young Boys could nick one. 8/5 feels like a fair price on a home win and BTTS.

Viktor Gyokeres to score anytime @ 5/6

As a Coventry fan, I’ve been lucky enough to see Gyokeres play for my club and now he is tearing it up in Portugal. The progression he has made over the last few years has been staggering and now he looks like one of the top five strikers in world football. Sporting played a blinder when they snagged him for just £20m in the summer, and now it looks like some of Europe’s giants are ready to pay four or five times that amount to secure his signature.

28 goals in 31 games in all competitions, and four in six in the Europa League have made him one of Europe’s top scorers, while he is also Sporting’s designated penalty taker. I’m more than happy to back him to score every single week.
