Sporting Lisbon vs Porto Prediction: Hosts to keep Estadio Jose Alvalade record intact

A top-of-the-table clash takes place in Lisbon on Monday night (KO, 20:15), as Sporting Lisbon host Porto at Estadio Jose Alvalade.

After 13 games only goal difference separates the sides in the Liga Portugal table, with Sporting currently holding the advantage in first.

But the Lions suffered defeat last time out in the league, and Porto may view Monday as an opportune time to end the side's perfect home record.

Sporting Lisbon vs Porto Betting Tips:

  • Sporting Lisbon to win @ 23/20
  • Viktor Gyokeres to score first @ 4/1

Team News

Ousmane Diomande was rested for a routine 3-0 win over Sturm Graz in the Europa League on Thursday, so the Ivory Coast international will expect to regain his place in the Sporting starting XI.

Jerry St Juste, Geny Catamo, Ivan Fresneda and Daniel Braganca are all ruled out, though.

Minimal changes are expected in the Porto line-up after their 5-3 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday, but Ivan Jaime is one player who could come into the side after starting their last league game against Casa Pia.

Match Odds

The home side are 23/20 favourites to pick up the three points on Monday, with the draw at 5/2 and an away win priced at 11/5.

Both teams to score is 8/11 and it's 10/11 for over 2.5 goals.

Sporting Lisbon to win @ 23/20

Sporting suffered defeat last time out in the league but they've won seven out of seven at home.

Porto have won six out of seven on their league travels but they lost their biggest game at Benfica, losing 1-0 after suffering an early red card, while their last away game, against Estoril in the League Cup, saw them lose 3-1.

A win for either side would be huge in the title race, even at this early stage. The visitors would probably be content with sharing the spoils so most of the pressure will be on Sporting, and I think they will thrive under it.

Porto have been leaking goals recently - they've only kept one clean sheet in their last five and shipped three at home in midweek - while Sporting have scored 17 at home in the league.

It's likely to be a tight affair, but Sporting can edge it.

Viktor Gyokeres to score first @ 4/1

The Swedish striker has made a superb start to his Sporting career, scoring 16 times since his summer move from Coventry City. Nine of those have come in the league, with only Braga's Simon Banza (13) ahead of him.

Gyokores has opened the scoring on five occasions in the league this term, including against Benfica in November, and he looks best placed to get his name on the scoresheet first on Monday.
