Celtic vs Hibs Prediction: Back over 2.5 goals in Glasgow on Saturday

Lovers of the Scottish Premiership have a busy Saturday ahead, with five matches on the schedule. Pick of the bunch comes from Glasgow, where Celtic host Hibs in the traditional Saturday 15:00 kick-off. The locals sit top of the league and are favourites to win, but Brendan Rodgers’ side endured a tough trip to Belgrade just three days ago.

Celtic return home following their visit to Red Star Belgrade in the UEFA Europa League on Wednesday. The coming weeks will be a real test for Rodgers and his Bhoys as the games come thick and fast.
Supporters fear the manager lacks the squad depth needed to compete domestically and in Europe. Is that the case? We’ll have a better idea on Saturday evening. Anything less than three points would upset an already restless crowd.
Hibs started the weekend three places below their hosts in the Premiership. David Gray’s team travel from Edinburgh to Glasgow as one of only four unbeaten sides left in the division.
Hibees have one win and four draws, scoring ten goals, but conceding nine. An away win wouldn’t send them top, but it would be a real statement of intent by a side hoping to challenge for a European finish. A spot in the top three isn’t out of the question.
First plays fourth on Saturday, and with Celtic fresh from a 1-1 draw in Belgrade, a competitive 90 minutes is expected. But that’s not reflected in the pre-match betting odds offered by Betfred traders.
The home win is red-hot favourite, and backers will get no more than 2/7 on Celtic boosting their tally to 16 points. I expect to see that appear in plenty of weekend UK football accumulators, and fancy the hosts to deliver.
Hibs fans would love nothing more than to snag a Saturday win, upsetting the league leaders and champions. Despite their lofty position and unbeaten start, Gray’s men have managed just one victory so far.
They opened with a 2-1 at Dens Park, but have finished level in each of their previous four in this competition. That makes another level finish attractive at the 5/1 available on the Betfred app, or you can support Hibs at a stunning 17/2.
Celtic vs Hibs Stats
- Hibs are running at a 80% success rate for BTTS so far in the SPL.
- Celtic are top of the SPL with four wins and a draw.
- Hibs are undefeated but have only won one of their five matches.
Over 2.5 goals
Our first bet in the east end of Glasgow on Saturday afternoon is for Celtic vs Hibs to produce three or more goals. You’ll find this wager in the total goals market, and it covers both teams combined.
That means a 3-0 home win lands you a winner, as does a 2-2 draw. As long as there’s more than two goals scored, you’ll land a profit. The odds offered show we have a strong chance here, and you can follow as a single or add over 2.5 goals to your weekend football accumulators.
We take encouragement from the stats. Celtic and Hibs met six times last season: four in the Premiership and once in each of the two cup competitions.
A bet on over 2.5 goals was a winner in four of those meetings, including a 3-1 Celtic win in May of this year. Celtic beat Partick 4-0 last Sunday and also boast a 2-1 win over Kilmarnock, a 3-0 home win over Livingston, and a 4-1 victory when hosting Falkirk.

Both Score & Celtic Win
Our second pick at Parkhead will suit lovers of a higher price. We’re betting on Celtic to win, but Hibs to score at least one goal. The head-to-head shows the same bet landed in 3-1 home wins in the Premiership and League Cup last term.
Celtic win and BTTS was also the best bet in Celtic’s most recent Premiership outing, when they left Rugby Park with a hard-fought 2-1 result. More of the same will do nicely.
Hibs have yet to lose a league match, and the team from the capital will give everything they’ve got to hold onto the zero for as long as possible. But they failed to impress when losing to a poor Rangers team last weekend in the cup, and if Celtic score an early goal, it’ll suck the belief from their opponents.
