United boss Erik ten Hag is under pressure once again as many supporters and figures within football believe that he is not the man to get the club back where they want to be. Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has always highlighted that there is never a clear style of play to this Man United side, despite the Dutchman being two years into his reign.

He compared it to what he saw from Arne Slot's Liverpool side in derby clash before the international break, making a note that Ten Hag's compatriot is just weeks into his post at Anfield, and as we know, the Red Devils were outclassed in every department.

Ex-United forward Saha touches on this while speaking with Betfred. He says: "There’s a lot of people in punditry and the media, as well as the fans, who are seeing things that they can’t understand when they watch Manchester United at the moment.

"We saw Arne Slot and Liverpool destroy the tactics of Erik ten Hag in their last game. At this moment, it’s not about personalities, it’s about seeing a plan that the players can identify with and cause damage with.

"Sometimes we see players play as individuals or not being able to respond correctly but at the moment, the problem is the game plan. Currently, we can’t identify a clear game plan and that’s why Erik’s being criticised. Things need to improve.”

If Ten Hag can't implement his style successfully soon, there are fears that he could soon be replaced, but by who is another puzzle entirely. Saha believes his position could become untenable should United befall the same manner of defeat against the Saints that they experienced against Liverpool.

"Against Liverpool, the issue was the performance rather than just the result, so Erik’s under pressure because the team isn’t playing well," he added. There were no signs during the game that things were going to be fixed. On Saturday, if Southampton are able to dominate against Manchester United in the same way that Liverpool dominated last week, then the situation would be untenable for Erik ten Hag.”

Here are Saha's bet builder tips for Southampton vs Man United.

Man United to win 3-0

I think United have to respond, not just with a result but with a performance to match. Ten Hag can no longer abide these casual performances and the fans need to start seeing an identity to this team, as it is the only way they will progress and be able to compete with their rivals.

They have players with individual quality who can deliver in key moments, which can help the manager for now while he tries to get the whole machine working. The likes of Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho are match-winners on their own, and I think they can play a huge part for the Red Devils on the south coast.

The players will be equally as desperate as their boss to put on a show here, and up against a side that have lost all three of their matches so far, they really need to come away with the three points.

I am putting my faith in the team to respond and I think this could be a match in which things start to click in the final third and so I am backing United to win this clash 3-0.

Alejandro Garnacho first goalscorer

With every game he plays, Garnacho continues to improve and he is making himself a key figure in this team. He will have been disappointed that he wasn't a starter at the start of the campaign but I think he cannot be left on the bench, particularly in a game they simply have to win.

The Argentine is yet to get off the mark in the Premier League this term, and he was cruelly denied his opening goal against Brighton & Hove Albion when Joshua Zirkzee's added touch saw the goal chalked off for offside.

The attacker will be eager to get up and running, and I think he can profit against a Saints side that has conceded five times already. I fancy Garnacho to open the scoring on Saturday.

Manuel Ugarte to receive a card

Ten Hag has stated new signing Manuel Ugarte won't be up to speed for a while to play, but in my opinion he simply has to play. Casemiro could benefit from being taken out of the firing line after he was bullied by Liverpool and made a few mistakes that were punished. Ugarte will offer United a shield they desperately need between the defence and midfield, so regardless of where his fitness is at he should be thrown straight in.

The Uruguayan will have a lot of responsibility on his shoulders and his aggressive style of play will mean there will be plenty of duels for him to get stuck into. I think as United can be careless with the ball, Southampton can force a few turnovers which will leave Ugarte exposed.

I think he will be drawn into a few fouls and as such pick up a first yellow card for the Red Devils.

Marcus Rashford 1+ shots on target

Marcus Rashford has already come under some criticism for a slow start to the season, which has been an overflow from a disappointing year in 2023/24. However, in the campaign before that, he was on fire - netting 17 goals in the league alone.

We all know what he is capable of but consistency year on year continues to be an issue. Ten Hag still favours him out on the left so that must give the England international some reassurance. He has the quality to get into dangerous positions, and he could benefit from facing a side low on confidence this weekend. It might provide him with the lift he needs.

Rashford is yet to register a shot in the league but I think that can change on Saturday, and I fancy him to hit the target too.
