Slovan Bratislava and Struga kickstart their Champions League campaigns on Wednesday (18:00) when they meet at Tehelne Pole for the first leg of their first qualifying round tie.

The hosts fell in the third qualifying round last year, before finding themselves a place in the Europa Conference League, while Struga missed out on a spot in the group stage of that same competition, falling just short in the play-off round. Read on for my Slovan Bratislava vs Struga prediction, featuring match odds and team news.

Slovan Bratislava are 2/5 to win this match and take the advantage into the second leg. This gives them an implied probability of 71.4%. Struga are valued at 6/1, giving them a theoretical chance of 14.3%. The draw can be backed at 3/1 (25%).

Both teams to score is priced at 6/5 and over 2.5 goals is marketed at 10/11.

Team News

The hosts should have a full squad for this one, having welcomed back some players from international duty. Cesar Blackman is back from Copa America duty with Panama, while Guram Kashia (Georgia), Juraj Kucka and David Strelec (both Slovakia) have returned from Euro 2024 action.

Strelec will return to the XI and lead the line, having made his loan move from Spezia permanent after scoring 14 goals across all competitions on loan last term. Tigran Barseghyan will pose a threat from wide areas having netted a team-high tally of 15 goals in 2023/24.

Struga could opt for a set-up that features a back five, while they possess potent attackers. Their 37-year-old forward Besart Ibraimi registered 22 goals last year. Then there is Marjan Radeski, who himself scored 18 across all competitions.

Slovan Bratislava to win to nil @ 11/10

I think the home advantage will play its part here and Slovan Bratislava will take a lead heading into the second leg. They will see this as an opportunity to try and wrap up the tie in the first leg, and they have been boosted by the return of their international players, who return having gained some valuable experience.

Struga do have players who can cause them problems but I do not think they are of the same calibre of some of the stars who feature for their opponents. I do think Slovan Bratislava are worth backing to win this match to nil, especially with it being on home soil.

There is plenty more experience in high-end competitions than their North Macedonian counterparts and I think that will be the difference when the two teams take to the pitch on Wednesday night.

Slovan Bratislava to win to nil at 11/10 Slovan Bratislava -1 handicap @ 13/10

This leads me nicely into my second tip. I have given my reasonings as to why I think the hosts can win this first leg without reply, which is why I also think they are worth backing with a -1 handicap.

For those who are unfamiliar with how handicaps work, they act as a hypothetical advantage or disadvantage. In this case, it would give Slovan Bratislava a disadvantage before the game kicks off and hand Struga a theoretical 1-0 lead. This means Slovan Bratislava would need to win by a two-goal margin.

I think the hosts can rack up a few goals here, especially with the added bonus of their international players returning, and I do see them wanting to get this tie done and dusted in their home leg, so I am expecting them to deliver a prolific display. And I think 13/10 is a fair price for this particular market.
