Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United clash at Hillsborough in Tuesday’s big EFL Cup tie and the Premier League outfit look set to pile more problems on the Owls (20:00 BST, live on Sky Sports Main Event).

Team News

With a lack of options due to their transfer restrictions, Wednesday boss Henrik Pederson is likely to stick with the majority of the team that fought back for a draw at Wrexham on Saturday.

The 2-2 scoreline at the Racecourse Ground was the Owls’ first point of the season and will offer them some hope that things can improve for the crisis-hit club.

Experienced forward Jamal Lowe came on as a substitute in the last 15 minutes at Wrexham and the former Swansea and Bournemouth man looks set for a start on Tuesday.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke has already admitted that he “won’t risk anyone” who has any injury concerns, ahead of a massive game with Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday.

Several of the players who were on the bench against Arsenal are expected to be handed starts, including the likes of Sam Byram and Jack Harrison.

Sheffield Wednesday are as big as 16/1 to win Tuesday’s tie and progress to the next round of the League Cup.

Premier League Leeds, who have an excellent recent record against the Owls, can be backed at 1/6, while the draw is available at 13/2.

Even without taking into account Wednesday’s recent problems, Leeds would be hot favourites to win this derby when you consider their recent record against their Yorkshire rivals.

The Whites are unbeaten in their last nine meetings with the Owls, winning their last three competitive match-ups.

Even more impressive is Leeds’ defensive record against Wednesday, who have scored in just one of their last seven encounters against the West Yorkshire outfit.

Saturday’s 5-0 loss at Arsenal brought to an end a five-game unbeaten away run for Farke’s men, who also did the double over Wednesday in the second tier last season.

The two Championship meetings in the 2024-25 season saw Leeds win 3-0 at Elland Road, after a 2-0 win in South Yorkshire last August.

Another concern for Wednesday is their recent home record, with only one win in their last 10 competitive matches at Hillsborough.
