Sheffield Wednesday welcome Birmingham City to Hillsborough in the Championship on Friday night (20:00) in a clash that pits 23rd against 19th.

Nine points separate the two sides and they both head into this clash off the back of a defeat. Wednesday were humbled 4-0 by fellow strugglers Huddersfield Town last weekend, while Birmingham slipped to a 1-0 victory against West Bromwich Albion.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Birmingham Betting Tips

  • Jay Stansfield to score anytime - 12/5

Match Odds

Sheffield Wednesday are 5/4 to pick the three points here. A draw can be backed at 12/5, while Birmingham are 11/5 to complete the double over the Owls this term.

Both teams were on the scoresheet in the reverse fixture at St Andrew's and it is valued at 8/11 to land on this occasion. Over 2.5 goals is 10/11, which also landed in that meeting.

Team News

Danny Rohl is likely to revert back to a more familiar lineup after making nine changes for Tuesday's FA Cup loss to Coventry City. Juan Delgado, Callum Paterson and Dominic Iorfa are all long-term absentees, with Cameron Dawson still out and Josh Windass now added to the list of players missing for the foreseeable future. Marvin Johnson missed the 4-0 hammering at Huddersfield Town on Saturday but could be back in contention.

The Blues are without Alfie Chang, John Ruddy and Dion Sanderson due to injury. Alex Pritchard is a doubt after bring forced off at half-time on his debut at The Hawthorns last week. Lukas Jutkiewicz and Cody Drameh could be fit to travel to Yorkshire.

Birmingham to win @ 11/5

Tony Mowbray suffered his first league defeat in charge of Birmingham against his former employers West Brom last time out in game that was fairly even. His side had several good chances but they were not clinical enough and sometimes made the wrong choices in the final third.

This is something he will want to rectify when they take on the Owls on Friday night as his side find themselves just four points above the relegation zone following Huddersfield and Queens Park Rangers both winning last week.

His side have been improving since he took the post and they will be facing a Wednesday side who not only suffered a humiliating defeat to fellow strugglers Huddersfield last week, they will also have some tired legs after their FA Cup fourth-round replay with Coventry City on Tuesday night.

With that in mind, we feel as though fortune is with the Blues heading into this one.

Birmingham to win at 11/5

Jay Stansfield to score anytime @ 12/5

Birmingham received a huge boost during the January transfer window as it was confirmed that top scorer Jay Stansfield would see out the rest of his season-long loan at St Andrew's amidst reported interest from Ipswich Town.

The Fulham loanee has scored eight goals in the Championship so far and undoubtedly carries the Blues' biggest goal threat. His last goal came in the victory at Stoke City a couple of weeks ago, and he will be eager to get one step closer to double figures for the season, as well as helping Birmingham pull themselves out of familiar danger.

He will be relishing the chance to face a defence low on confidence and shipped four goals against the Terriers. Stansfield feels like a good punt to get on the scoresheet on Friday night.
