Burnley currently sit third in the Championship table having lost just one of their nine league matches so far. The Clarets are looking to make it back into the Premier League at the first time of asking under the guiding hand of former Fulham boss Scott Parker, who also got promoted from this level with Bournemouth.

Their next test comes at Hillsborough where they will face Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon (15:00). Sheffield Wednesday have won three of their nine matches so far with impressive victories against West Brom and Coventry before the international break. Below you can find my Sheff Wed vs Burnley prediction featuring team news and betting tips.

Sheff Wed vs Burnley Betting Tips

  • Sheff Wed to win @ 7/4
  • Under 0.5 Burnley goals @ 9/4

Team News

Pierce and Shea Charles, Sheffield Wednesday’s superb band of brothers, both started for Northern Ireland in their 5-0 win over Bulgaria in what must have been an incredibly special moment for their family. They are now fit to return to Hillsborough, while Wednesday’s current number one James Beadle started in goal for England’s U21s in their hammering of Azerbaijan. Not a bad week to be a Wednesday goalkeeper.

On the injury front, Danny Rohl will hope to welcome back Liam Palmer after he missed the victory at Coventry with a hamstring issue, while Olaf Kobacki was absent with a calf problem. This international break should have some extra time for recovery and Dominic Iorfa could make his first appearance since April having sat on the bench at the CBS Arena. There’s still a place up front for grabs with Jamal Lowe starting last time out, Ike Ugbo still waiting on his first league goal of the season and Michael Smith offering a different focal point for the Owls.

Meanwhile, Burnley suffered a blow over the international break as Lyle Foster picked up a knee injury in South Africa’s 5-0 win over Congo. Parker has confirmed he is sidelined for this trip to Yorkshire but is already back on the grass, as is Hannes Delcroix, so the duo shouldn’t be out for too long.

However the Clarets remain without long-term absentees in the form of Jordan Beyer, Hjalmar Ekdal, Joe Worrall, Aaron Ramsey, Manuel Benson and Nathan Redmond, while Mike Tresor is still working his way back to full fitness.

Sheff Wed vs Burnley Odds

Sheffield Wednesday are priced at 7/4 to win this game, giving them an implied win probability of 34% while Burnley are available at 6/4. A draw can be backed at 2/1, over 2.5 goals is 11/10 and BTTS is 4/5. Andreas Hountondji is the favourite to open the scoring at 6/1.

Sheff Wed to win @ 7/4

Burnley may be third, but I’ve not been that impressed with them this season. That might be a bit of a mad statement given they’ve lost just once, won away at Leeds and conceded only four goals, but I think they are about to embark on a sticky run of form - starting in Sheffield.

Having watched Wednesday tear apart my beloved but beleaguered Coventry City last time out, I am fairly certain that they will be a top-10 team this season. The results perhaps don’t reflect the quality of their performances and I’d expect them to climb the table. With seven points from their last three games, including a statement win over WBA, I think they can bag another home success here. I’m hot on Wednesday, and cold on the Clarets. Home win.

Under 0.5 Burnley goals @ 9/4

Burnley don’t create much going forward at the moment and despite their individual quality, have been woeful to watch of late. Now with Foster confirmed as out, I think they could draw another blank here, as they have done in two of their last three games.

Their only goal in three games against Oxford, Plymouth and Preston (hardly the toughest of fixtures) came as Josh Brownhill converted a penalty against Argyle. From open play, they’ve been as timid as tap water, and I think Wednesday should be able to keep them at bay.
