There’s a big South Yorkshire derby in the Championship on Sunday as struggling pair Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham meet at Hillsborough.

The Owls are rock-bottom and have yet to win a league game all season while the Millers have managed just two victories so far and are only six points better off.

Sheff Wed vs Rotherham Tips

  • Rotherham to win @ 10/3
  • Under 2.5 total goals @ 4/7

Match Odds

Sheffield Wednesday, despite all their problems, are the 9/10 favourites to win, with a draw 12/5 and Rotherham 10/3 to triumph.

It seems unlikely both teams will score at Hillsborough, a selection which is available at 8/11, while both teams to score is on offer at EVS.

Goals are also expected to be at a premium in this derby with under 1.5 available at 7/4 and under 2.5 goals 4/7.

Team News

Defender Callum Paterson is expected to be fit for the home side after recovering from a leg injury that kept him out of the 3-0 defeat at Plymouth in midweek.

Michael Smith is being tipped to come in for Lee Gregory up front, while Will Vaulks and Jeff Hendrick are among the players also pushing for recalls with manager Danny Rohl likely to make changes as he searches for solutions to Wednesday’s problems.

Rotherham still have several players unavailable through injury with Grant Hall, Tyler Blackett, Jamie Lindsay, Cameron Humphreys and Shane Ferguson all still out.

Sebastian Revan and Georgie Kelly both came off the bench against Coventry and could come into the starting line-up should Matt Taylor opt to make some changes.

Rotherham to win @ 10/3

The Owls have had a thoroughly dismal campaign so far and are bottom of the Championship with just three points on the board.

After 13 games Wednesday are yet to win, suffering 10 defeats and managing just three draws to leave them in a desperate state.

Confidence levels must be very low at Hillsborough following the 3-0 defeat at Plymouth in midweek and the Owls have failed to score in any of their last six games, managing only five goals all season.

Rohl has only been in charge for two games but so far there has been little sign he can turn things around as he has overseen a 1-0 loss at Watford and then that heavy defeat at Home Park.

However, despite all the doom and gloom around the club, Wednesday are favourites to beat the Millers, who are also in the relegation zone after two wins, three draws and seven defeats from their first 12 matches.

Owls fans will hope going up against their local rivals in a home derby will somehow inspire them to put in a much-improved performance but it could end up being another day to forget.

The fact one of Rotherham’s two victories this term came in midweek when they beat Coventry 2-0 at home means the visitors can approach their short trip with renewed optimism and they look to be good value to make it two wins in quick succession.

Under 2.5 total goals @ 4/7

This derby could be a tough watch and it’s unlikely to be a goal-fest considering the respective teams’ struggles this season.

The Owls’ poor goal record is a major problem and they are easily the lowest scorers in the division with just five. Their last goal came way back in a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough on September 19 and they only managed two shots on target at Plymouth last time out.

Rotherham’s tally of 12 means only Wednesday and QPR, who are the other side in the bottom three, have scored fewer than them this season.

Furthermore, Matt Taylor’s side have only scored more than one goal in three games this season, so backing under 2.5 total goals on Sunday seems an obvious selection.
