Sheffield United return to action at Bramall Lane, licking their wounds after a 3-2 loss to Crystal Palace in midweek.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa are also looking for improvement, having been taken apart by Newcastle on Tuesday night. These two meet on Saturday afternoon, with kick-off at 15:00, and we’ve previewed this match below.

Sheff Utd vs Aston Villa

  • Ben Brereton Diaz to score anytime @ 11/4
  • Over 5.5 goals @ 7/1

Team News

Chris Basham, John Egan and George Baldock are out while both Max Lowe and Tom Davies should be fit to return here. Ivo Grbic started at Palace but was taken off with concussion, so Wes Foderingham is likely to start in his place at Bramall Lane. Rhian Brewster remains suspended after his straight red card vs West Ham.

For Villa, Lucas Digne is edging closer to a return and could be an option from the bench here. Pau Torres has suffered a set-back in his recovery however so is likely to remain out for the next couple of weeks. Bertrand Traore will return from the AFCON this week and could be available to feature.

Match Odds

Sheffield United are 9/2 to win this match, with Aston Villa priced at 4/7. A draw can be backed at 16/5, over 2.5 goals is 4/7 and BTTS is 4/6.

Ben Brereton Diaz to score anytime @ 11/4

The signing of Ben Brereton Diaz looks to have been an incredibly positive one for Chris Wilder and Sheffield United. Since joining in January he has scored two in as many Premier League matches from the left wing, and Wilder seems to be getting the best out of him.

I believe there will be plenty of chances at both ends in this one, and after they conceded three at home to Newcastle United, Villa are likely to give up chances once again. I’m steering away from predicting the result in this game, due to the unpredictability of both sides, but backing Brereton Diaz to find the net again seems like a sensible pick in my eyes.

Over 5.5 goals @ 7/1

Over 5.5 goals Simon? That’s insane. But hear me out.

Sheffield United have been involved in some high-scoring games recently. Their last three matches have ended 2-2, 5-2 and 2-2, while Aston Villa’s 3-1 loss to Newcastle United raises my hopes that this will be a high-scoring encounter. Villa have all the talent to tear Sheffield United apart if they wish, with Ollie Watkins back amongst the goals.

Leon Bailey also played well in that game, while their players will be determined to prove themselves in this tough away test. Sheffield United will also fancy their chances of taking advantage of a Villa defence lacking in confidence, with Brereton Diaz in particular having found some form in front of goal of late.

Over 5.5 goals
