Seattle Sounders vs PSG Bet Builder Tips: 17/2 for defender to score

Seattle Sounders know that they cannot qualify for the knockout stages of the Club World Cup having lost to both Atletico Madrid and Botafogo, but they will have a big say in PSG’s hopes of glory.

PSG -2 Handicap

PSG suffered a shock loss to Botafogo last time out, putting their chances of qualification at risk, but fortunately for the European champions, their final group game comes against the weakest team in the group. Seattle Sounders have been beaten twice so far, losing 2-1 to Fogo before Atletico Madrid secured a 3-1 victory over the Americans. 

Worryingly, they conceded an xG of 3.26 against the side from the Spanish capital, and given PSG have one of the most dangerous attacks in the world, I think this is only going to end one way. The Parisians made a few key changes to the starting XI in that defeat to Botafogo, but Luis Enrique will surely revert to their strongest team for this one given what is on the line.

This side hammered Atletico Madrid 4-0 in their opening game, and the Botafogo defeat was surely an anomaly, as the European champions look to bounce back in style. The -2 handicap requires PSG to win by three goals or more, and in what I believe will be a one-sided encounter full of goals, I think that will come in. 

Nuno Mendes to score

Nuno Mendes has quickly established himself as one of the finest full-backs on the planet and his omission from the starting XI was a major reason why Botafogo managed to beat PSG. Lucas Hernandez started in his place but he does not offer the same energy and drive on the ball, and the Brazilians therefore set up to funnel the ball down his side of the pitch.

PSG need Mendes at his best if they are going to win this competition and I expect him to start, and attack the left-hand side against Seattle Sounders. This is a game PSG will dominate, so his defensive duties will be minimal, and we saw in the Champions League final just how effective he can be. 

He has scored six goals this season, four in the Champions League, but I think he offers massive value in this game given how dominant PSG are set to be. Mendes had 10 shots on target in 24 Ligue 1 matches this term, so although this is a long shot, I do believe he has what it takes to find the net.

Over 7.5 corners 

PSG’s dominance should lead to plenty of corners in this game, and that was the case against Botafogo as they had 10 in comparison to Fogo’s one. Meanwhile, Seattle managed four of their own against Atleti despite defeat, so I think we are playing things relatively safe with a line of 7.5 in this fixture.
