Scottish football returns to our screens this weekend with some eye-catching fixtures on the schedule. Betfred’s Frank Monkhouse previews the action, suggesting a five-team acca. Play for small stakes and target big returns...

Scottish Football Accumulator Tips - Saturday 25 November, 2023:

  • Back Celtic to beat Motherwell @ 1/9
  • Back Hearts to beat St Johnstone @ 1/2
  • Back St Mirren to beat Livingston @ 7/10
  • Back Greenock Morton beat Bo’ness Utd @ 2/9
  • Back Dundee Utd to beat Queen of the South @ 4/11
  • £10 Bet pays out £47.22 at the time of writing.

An exciting Third Round from the Scottish Cup supports a five-game fixture card from the Scottish Premiership. The top teams aren’t yet in the running but join the fray at the next stage, giving the country’s smaller teams a reason to be in the hat for the Fourth Round.

Keep reading as we pick out the best of this weekend’s action from the Premiership and the Scottish Cup, including an intriguing game at Paradise.

Celtic to beat Motherwell @ 1/9

We open at the home of the champions, where Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic looks to pull further clear of the chasing pack. The locals remain unbeaten this season, winning 11 and drawing two games. Victory would move Celtic 11 points clear of Rangers, who have games in hand.

Will lowly Motherwell, winless in their last five, be the team to inflict a first defeat on the Hoops? We don’t think so, and although the odds are tight, we kick off our Scottish five-team acca with a home win for Celtic. The Steelmen look capable of scoring but carry a dreadful record at this venue. You’ll find a full match preview of Celtic v Motherwell on our Scottish football pages.

Hearts to beat St Johnstone @ 1/2

The Jambos are hoping to finish as the best of the rest behind the Old Firm in the Premiership this season and can increase their chances with three points at home to St Johnstone. The capital city club moved to fourth following back-to-back wins, and fans may fear the international break arrived at the wrong time for their club as they were finally building momentum.

Hearts can pick up where they left off by beating a Saints side that is only one point off the bottom and has scored just eight goals so far in a miserable campaign. In striker Lawrence Shankland, Hearts have a prolific goalscorer. Take Hearts to add another three points to their improving tally.

St Mirren beat Livingston @ 7/10

The surprise package of the Premiership season so far is St Mirren, who, like Hearts, have their sights set on a bronze medal finish and spot in Europe. They have been performing way above expectations, losing three of their first dozen outings. They have gone off the boil of late, but a home game in Paisley against a struggling opponent looks like the ideal opportunity to return to winning ways.

Livingston impressed last season, and fans hoped to see the Lions roaring again this campaign, but they’ve started slowly. David Martindale’s side entered the weekend rock bottom of the Premiership with just two wins from 13, with nine goals scored and 21 conceded. They have the worst goal difference in the league, and that’ll be music to the ears of a Saints attack that loves to get forward in numbers. Back a home win in Renfrewshire.

Greenock Morton to beat Bo’ness United @ 2/9

Leaving the Premiership, we switch our focus to the Scottish Cup and some eye-catching fixtures. There’s sure to be more than the odd cup upset this weekend, but will there be a giant killing at Cappielow where Morton takes on Bo’ness United? We don’t think so and back an overdue win for the Ton.

If any manager needs a morale-boosting victory this autumn, it is Morton boss Dougue Imrie. The Ton are stuck in a fight to avoid relegation to League One following a poor run of results and a potentially season-wrecking injury list. It’ll be another patchwork line-up for Dougie, but his full-time players know they must get the job done against the minnows of Bo’ness. Side with the locals, adding Morton to your bet slip.

Dundee Utd to beat Queen of the South @ 4/11

The final leg of our weekend Scottish football accumulator takes us to Tannadice, where Championship leaders Dundee United host League One strugglers Queen of the South. The hosts have recent experience playing in the top flight and are the Championship betting favourites to return with a league title at the end of the season. Opponents QOS are, at best, a Championship team but could drop to League Two if things don’t improve.

Dundee United are unbeaten in the second tier, winning nine and drawing four. They were last seen in league action, beating a decent Dunferlime Athletic on the road. QOS entered without a league win in four, taking one point from the dozen available. The Scottish Cup is world-famous for providing shocks, but we don’t expect to see the home team slip up in front of their fans on Saturday.
