Hearts beat Dundee

We open in the capital, where third-placed Hearts host sixth-placed Dundee. The Jambos prepare for game 36 of 38 with their recent form showing two wins, two draws, and a defeat, with the spare coming in their most recent outing.

Hearts lost 3-0 at Celtic Park last Saturday, and they went down without offering too much of a fight. That annoyed manager Steven Naismith, who will demand a return to winning ways and an attitude that shows the squad is prepared to fight all the way to the finish line.

Dundee stops at Tynecastle, having secured a top-six finish, but the team from Dens Park appears to have downed tools. They’ve lost three and drawn two of their last five, ending on the losing side of the result in each of their previous two. We last saw Dundee in action when suffering a 3-1 home defeat to St Mirren, and we’re happy to back the locals at fair odds.

St Johnstone beat Livingston

Switching from the top six to the bottom six, and things are getting tight in and around the relegation zone. Livingston host Ross County, with the home team already relegated and preparing for Championship football next season. The Lions have won just four games all season and lost two of their last three. With little to play for other than pride, we’re happy to oppose Livingston on their patch.

St Johnstone starts this game second from the bottom of the table, with only their hosts beneath them in the pecking order. Craig Levein’s men are involved in a relegation dog fight with two points separating them from Ross County and safety.

That makes every game a must-win between now and the finish line, and a visit to the division’s worst team presents a perfect opportunity to grab three points. Back the Saints to win and throw themselves a lifeline after three previous draws against Livi this term. Saturday’s game means more to the Saints than Livi, and that will show in the result.

Motherwell beat Ross County

We wrap things up in Dingwall, where Ross County hosts Motherwell. The Staggies are third from the bottom of the league and hanging onto a place in the Premiership by their fingertips.

It’s now a straight shoot-out between Ross County and St Johnstone to avoid the relegation playoff place. County are improving and has won two of their last three, but we fancy an improving Motherwell to bank the points.

The Steelmen have lost only one of their last five league starts as they finish the season with a flurry. They won last time out, hammering Livingston 4-1 on the road, and we expect them to stir the pot with another win, heaping pressure on their opponents. Well beat County 5-0 last time, and they have the confidence and momentum to collect another important three points. With a strong finish, they could finish as high as sixth.
