We return to league action following last week’s Scottish Cup games, which threw up some interesting results. It’s always easier to find winners in the league than in the cup, and that’s what we aim to do in this weekend’s Scottish football fourfold.

Betfred’s Frank Monkhouse has studied the stats, recent form, and current betting odds before returning with his Saturday acca. There are three games from the top flight and an interesting match from the Championship. Keep reading as we highlight each pick in our bet, which offers followers a crack at just north of 14/1 as he takes us through his Saturday Football Accumulator Tips...

Aberdeen beat St Johnstone

We begin at Pittodrie, the home of second-placed Aberdeen, who welcome relegation-threatened St Johnstone. The home team started the season impressively, going on a long unbeaten run and fighting back to rescue a share of the spoils at Celtic Park. Despite their impressive form, which has them four points better than Rangers in third, the Dons have hit a sticky patch. They’re winless in four, but Saturday looks like the ideal opportunity to get back on track.

We’d think twice about backing Aberdeen after taking two points from the last dozen available, but the Saints are easy to oppose this season. The visitors travel to the Granite City with only three teams below them in the table. They’ve lost four of their last five games, including a home defeat to Rangers last time. Back Aberdeen to return to winning ways.

Dundee Utd beat Kilmarnock

Moving to Tannadice for leg two of four, and we’re backing Dundee United to pile pressure on a shell-shocked Kilmarnock. The visitors suffered the humiliation of a 6-0 thrashing on Wednesday at Ibrox, and it could’ve been more if not for some fantastic saves from goalkeeper Robby McCrorie. Rangers were favourites to win that game, but few saw Killie suffering such a heavy defeat.

Switching to the hosts, we’re backing Dundee United to make home advantage count and build on a strong run of form. The locals are unbeaten in four Premiership starts, winning two and drawing two. They’re currently fourth in the table and impressed with a hard-fought but deserved 2-0 win over St Mirren here last weekend. Back Dundee United to continue to strengthen their bid for a top-four finish with another win.

St Mirren beat Motherwell

The last pick of three from the Scottish Premiership, and we’re taking St Mirren to make a timely return to winning ways and get their push for a top-six finish back on track. They enjoy home advantage and enter with three wins, a draw, and a defeat in their last five. The spare loss came away to Dundee United, but this St Mirren squad has the character needed to fight back and score an important home win.

It’s not difficult to oppose Motherwell this winter after the Steelmen lost each of their last three Premiership starts and four of their previous six. They ended November with a 2-1 loss in Dingwall and a 3-0 home defeat against Hibs. We last saw Motherwell in action on Wednesday when slipping to a shock 4-1 loss at Dens Park. Add St Mirren to your weekend multiples, and hope the team from Paisley are back to their best.

Partick beat Ayr

We wrap up our Scottish football Saturday fourfold with a bet on Partick Thistle to beat Ayr United. The second tier is as competitive as ever, and the game in Glasgow is the pick of the round. Thistle moved up to fourth thanks to four wins and a draw in their last five. The Jags hammered Hamilton 5-1 here when last in Championship action. Anything close to a repeat performance should be enough for another three points.

Ayr United travel to Glasgow sitting one place and five points better than their hosts in the league table. The Honest Men are currently involved in the title race, but their recent form hasn’t been as consistent or impressive as their opponents. Ayr have won three, drawn one and lost one of their previous five league starts. They did take six points from their last two games, but anything can happen in this league, and we’re happy to trust home advantage.
