Hibs beat Ross County
We start with a bet on Hibs to beat Ross County in the capital. It’s not often you’ll see the team from Easter Road backed in this column, and there’s a good reason for that. They are currently at the bottom of the Premiership with just two wins on the board, but they appear to be preparing a fightback.
Hibs have taken four of the last nine points available after drawing with Aberdeen, beating Motherwell and losing to Celtic. The home team scored six goals in that period and will have a chance to build on that against the Staggies.
Ross County started in eighth place, following just one win in their previous six games. They’ve lost each of their last two, beaten 5-0 at Celtic Park before losing 3-0 at home to Rangers last weekend. There’s no shame in losing to the Old Firm, but that leaky defence is a cause for concern. Take a chance on Hibs to score an important three points in their bid to avoid the bottom two and relegation to the Championship next year.
St Mirren beat St Johnstone
It’s the battle of the saints at McDiarmid Park in Perth when St Johnstone host St Mirren. The home team are ninth in the league and have won one, drawn one, and lost four of their last six.
They started December with a 1-0 defeat to Rangers at this venue before batling to a 1-1 draw at Pittodrie last time, which was better than we expected from them. St Johnstone are capable of avoiding relegation but have one of the worst defensive records in the league and have conceded more goals than the two teams in the drop zone.
St Mirren travel to Perth after two defeats, which cost them their place in the top six. The team from Paisley is better than their most recent results suggest, and it’s worth knowing that those losses came after three wins and a draw. It won’t be pretty at McDiarmid Park, but if St Mirren are anywhere near their best, they should be good enough to make a timely return to winning ways.
Dundee Utd beat Motherwell
We move to Fir Park, where we’re backing another away win when Dundee United visit Motherwell. The Steelmen have blown hot and cold in the opening 15 rounds of the season. They are fifth in the table with 22 points on the board and already boast some eye-catching results, but recently lost three games on the bounce. Fans are unhappy with the shape and style of play and they won’t be slow in making their feelings clear if things don’t go according to plan on Saturday.
Dundee United arrive in town sitting one place higher in the Premiership than their opponents, with two more points on the board.
The Tangerines are unbeaten in five starts, collecting two wins and three draws. Another share of the spoils would be a decent result at Fir Park, but we’re backing Dundee United to go one better and continue their form with a win over a Well that leaked four goals against Dundee.
Morton beat Airdrie
We wrap up our Saturday fourfold with a bet on Morton to beat Airdrie on the road. The team from Greenock are second from the bottom of the Championship and facing a relegation fight early next year unless things improve.
The visitors did bank five points from their last three games, including an impressive win over Raith Rovers away from home. Another win would ease pressure on the Cappielow side.
Airdrie are stuck hard to the bottom of the table and are already ten points off safety. The home team is on a long losing run and have won just one of their previous 15 starts. They appear to be out of their depth at this level, and we’re backing Morton to pile on the pressure by winning and pulling clear of the bottom two.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
