The bottom two sides in Serie A - Salernitana and Sassuolo - meet each other at Stadio Arechi in Salerno on Friday evening (KO, 19:45), with time fast running out for the hosts in their bid to avoid relegation.

I Granata are currently 10 points behind their next opponents, who are a point off safety themselves, and require a small miracle to stay in the division. Below is all the latest team news and match odds ahead of this clash, which is live on TNT Sports, and read on for our Salernitana vs Sassuolo prediction.

Sassuolo vs Salernitana Betting Tips

  • Draw @ 12/5
  • Both teams to score 4/6

Team News

The hosts are still without Grigoris Kastanos and Federico Fazio due to injury, but Jerome Boateng could start after making his return as a late substitute in Sunday's 3-0 defeat at Bologna.

Sassuolo missed the creativity of their talisman Domenico Berardi for a third consecutive game on Sunday as they were held 1-1 at home by Udinese, and the 29-year-old will miss out again this week as he continues his recovery from an Achilles tendon injury.

Gregoire Defrel made a goalscoring return to the starting XI last weekend and is expected to deputise for Berardi on the right once more.

Match Odds

Salernitana are 11/5 - or a 31.3% chance - to win at home for the first time since November 25 (2-1 vs Lazio), while Sassuolo can be backed at 5/4, implying they have a 44.4% chance of collecting all three points. The draw, meanwhile, is available at 12/5.

Both teams were on target twice in a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture and it's 4/6 for BTTS again on Friday, and a repeat of the scoreline is 12/1.

Draw @ 12/5

A side with six Serie A home defeats in a row hosts one with seven-straight away losses; the run has to end on Friday for at least one, and I'm backing it to be for both.

The reason is pretty simple - it's difficult to make a case for either to win. Salernitana are rock-bottom and look resigned to relegation having won just twice in the league all season, and not since December 30.

Sassuolo have tasted victory more recently, beating Frosinone 1-0 on March 9, but their last away win was on November 26 against Empoli. They've even failed to score in six of their last seven Serie A matches on the road, so despite there being more riding on this for the visitors, who still have a realistic chance of survival, I'm not prepared to stick my neck out for them here.

Both teams to score 4/6

Sassuolo's scoring record since the end of last year has been nothing short of woeful, but they will back themselves to find the back of the net against a side who have conceded more goals at home (30) than any other in Serie A.

In fact, I Granata haven't kept a single clean sheet at Stadio Arechi this season.

The hosts haven't scored in either of their last two home matches either, but before that they scored in seven-straight games on their own turf, a run which included strikes against AS Roma, Juventus, AC Milan, Bologna and Lazio.

There's not much left to lose for Salernitana so they might as well go for it on Friday, while the onus is on Sassuolo to take all three points in one of their most winnable games left to play. That should lend itself to an exciting encounter in Salerno, which should produce a goal or two on each side.
