Roma welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday evening (17:45) for the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie. The hosts head into this one off the back of an impressive 4-1 victory at Monza in Serie A, while Brighton were comfortably beaten by Fulham in the Premier League on their last outing.

Below are our Roma vs Brighton predictions, along with team news and the generic markets on offer for this contest.

Roma vs Brighton Betting Tips

  • Roma and both teams to score Yes @ 11/4
  • Romelu Lukaku to score anytime @ 8/5

Match Odds

Roma are 23/20 to take the advantage in the first leg. Brighton can be backed at 6/4, while a draw is on offer at 5/2.

Both teams to score is priced at 8/13 and over 2.5 goals is 8/11.

Romelu Lukaku is the joint-second top goalscorer in the Europa League this season with six. He is valued at 7/2 to open proceedings on Thursday.

Team News

Roma suffered a blow in their big victory over the weekend as defender Rasmus Kristensen has been ruled out with a thigh injury. Fellow full-back Rick Karsdrop  and Tammy Abraham are also unavailable for this clash.

The Seagulls are set to be without top scorer Joao Pedro, Solly March, Kaoru Mitoma, Jack Hinshelwood and James Milner for the trip to Rome.

Daniele De Rossi has been making a good impression in charge of the Italian side since coming in to replace Jose Mourinho. He has won six of his seven Serie A clashes, as well as guiding the Giallorossi to this stage of the Europa League with a victory over Feyenoord via penalties in the play-off round.

They head into this tie full of confidence and they will be facing a Brighton side that are unpredictable. The Seagulls have been good in Europe this term but their form in the league has been up and down.

Roberto De Zerbi's side have lost four of their last five trips on the road, and they are taking on a side that have lost just once under their new manager. However, the Seagulls do have quality within their ranks and can cause the Italian outfit some problems. After all, BTTS has landed in eight of Roma's last 10 fixtures in all competitions.

We're expecting Roma to take the advantage in the first leg, especially if Lukaku and Paulo Dybala feature, but Brighton can get in on the goalscoring action in the Italian capital.

Former Manchester United and Chelsea forward Lukaku has been in exceptional form in the Europa League this year. Six goals in eight outings is hugely impressive, and he will fancy himself to get to double figures if his side can go far in the competition. Of course his contributions will be key for them to achieve that, and the Belgian international will be up for the challenge.

Against a Brighton defence that have looked shaky at various points in the season, the 30-year-old will be confident he can extend his European tally on Thursday evening. The Seagulls have kept just seven clean sheets in all competitions in 2023-24, and although four of them came in the Europa League group stage, they are travelling to face one of the most in-form strikers in the competition.
