Europa conference scaled

Rapid Vienna have made a faultless start in the Conference League with three wins in three attempts so far and they'll expect to continue their progress when Shamrock Rovers visit on Thursday.

Read on for my Rapid Vienna vs Shamrock Rovers prediction, alongside the latest match odds and team news.

Rapid Vienna vs Shamrock Rovers Betting Tips

  • Rapid Vienna to win and both teams to score @ 9/5
  • Guido Burgstaller to score first @ 7/2

Football Odds

Rapid are one of six sides in the 36-team Conference League to have a perfect record after three games.

Shamrock Rovers are unbeaten themselves, with seven points from nine, and can be very pleased with their work so far, but the Dublin-based side are set for a much more daunting challenge in Vienna.

Team News

Stephen Bradley has confirmed that Rory Gaffney, Aaron McEneff, Danny Mandroiu and Sean Hoare will definitely miss out, while Aaron Greene is expected to be fit and Graham Burke will train with the squad in Vienna and be assessed from there.

Rapid boss Robert Klauß must plan without Ferdy Druijf, Ryan Mmaee and Bernhard Zimmerman, while Ismail Seydi, Bendeguz Bolla and Dion Beljo are carrying knocks.

The hosts are expected to win and have been installed as 1/4 favourites to oblige. Shamrock Rovers are attempting to win three Conference League games in a row and can be backed at 11/1 to achieve it, while the draw is priced at 5/1.

Over 3.5 goals is priced at 5/4, while both teams to score can be backed at 1/1 for this Vienna showdown.

Rapid Vienna to win and both teams to score @ 9/5

Rapid Vienna are long odds-on to win and there is little appeal in the handicap markets to suggest getting involved in backing a side that finished only sixth in the Austrian top tier after the regular season ended last time.

They have only conceded once in three games but have paced poor opposition in FC Noah and CS Petrocub in their last two games. Both were clean sheets but Istanbul Basaksehir breached their defence on matchday one.

Shamrock Rovers meanwhile have scored seven goals in three games so far and are yet to fire a blank. Stephen Bradley's side have bagged wins over Larne and TNS but this is a considerable step up in class.

They scored twice away to Sparta Prague in a Champions League qualifier in July and took Slovenian side Celje to extra-time in the Europa League qualifiers.

A home game against Borac Banja Luca in Dublin next month is going to be Rovers' best shot at getting a third win and possible progress to the playoff stages, but they will have a go in Austria and could find the net in a losing effort.

Guido Burgstaller to score first @ 7/2

The home side should dominate this contest from the off and create chances, which bodes well for in-form frontman Guido Burgstaller.

The veteran forward spent a chunk of time in Germany at the likes of Nurnberg, Schalke and St Pauli but returned home for a second stint at Rapid in 2022.

He has two Conference League goals in three appearances already this season, hitting a brace against Moldovan outfit Petrocub.

That double came in the second half but in his other four goalscoring games this season he has broken the deadlock and he's on a tally of eight goals for the season.
