Europa League football returns to Ibrox on Thursday evening as Scottish Premiership side Rangers hosts seven-time French Ligue 1 champions Olympique Lyonnais. The stadium will be packed to capacity, with millions more watching the play live on TNT Sports.
Philippe Clement’s Gers bagged a surprise win over Malmo in their opener and aim for another shock result. They seem to reserve their best performances for this competition, but will they add another crucial three points?
Lyon have met Rangers four times in the past, with the head-to-head stats showing the French side have two wins, one draw, and a win for Rangers.
Lyon are unbeaten against Thursday’s opponents in three, scoring a 3-0 Champions League win here in 2007 and a 2-0 victory in this tournament three years ago. Will Pierre Sage’s team continue that purple patch with another positive result? Lyon are sure to be popular in pre-match predictions.
The Rangers vs Lyon betting odds available on the Betfred website and mobile app make for interesting reading and tell fans to expect a competitive 90 minutes. Traders struggle to separate the teams, and that will catch the attention of bettors looking for the value.
Rangers have given us some memorable Europa League nights at this venue in recent years and trade at an eye-catching 6/4 to make it two wins from two Europa League starts.
Lyon are one of the early favourites to progress from the revamped Europa League and book a place in the knockout stages. They beat Olympiakos Piraeus 2-0 in France in their opening game and would strengthen their position with another victory.
Supporters of the away win will find Lyon available at 13/8 for victory in Glasgow, while the draw is difficult to ignore at the 12/5 currently available.

Both teams to score
Rangers really impressed when scoring a first win over Malmo last week, battling to a 2-0 victory. It was a comfortable performance, but the winning side missed a few great opportunities to extend their lead and could’ve had the game wrapped up by half-time.
They’ll set up to put the visitors under pressure from the first whistle and are capable of scoring to make things interesting. There are goals in the home team, and the big nights bring out the best in the Gers attack.
Lyon are certainly no slouches in attack either and arrive in Glasgow following a battling 2-1 away win over Toulouse in Ligue 1 on Sunday.
They fell behind in that game, conceding inside 14 minutes, but fought back to equalise midway through the first half before grabbing a dramatic winner near the end. They’ve scored six goals in their last three games and we trust them to find the net again.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Both score and Lyon win
Sticking with our prediction for both teams to score, we add a Lyon win to our bet slip, which boosts the odds.
Backing both teams to score and Lyon to win would’ve earned you a profit in their most recent outing when beating Toulouse at the weekend. If they are anywhere near their best, they have the players and experience to leave with all three points.
Rangers continue to improve under Clement but were rather fortunate to beat Hibs at Ibrox on Sunday, needing a big save from Jack Butland to escape with a 1-0 win.
Thursday’s opponents will create chances and have the quality to hurt a home defence that looks nervous under pressure. Gers are no pushovers in Govan and proved they can score goals in that win over Malmo, but question marks remain over the defence.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
