Rangers needed an own goal from former player Jason Holt to defeat an average St Johnstone three days ago.
That win in Perth provided a much-needed three points, moving the hosts onto two wins and a draw in their last three. But everyone connected to the home dressing room knows much better is expected as they attempt to put pressure on the two sides above them in the pecking order who face off in the Granite City.
Former Rangers midfielder Derek McInnes led his Killie side to a stunning 1-0 win over Rangers at Rugby Park in October. Rangers dominated the play that day but failed to find the net.
They were made to pay the price for that wastefulness in front of goal when Kilmarnock scored late to snatch the points. Marley Watkins rifled home with 87 minutes on the clock to score a rare win for his team over Rangers. Can they do the double and silence the home support?
The return to home comforts is expected to help Rangers improve as an already battered and bruised squad enters another must-win game.
No one at Rangers will admit it, but the title race looks to be over already, barring a huge collapse from Celtic at Pittodrie and during a hectic festive period. Despite starting third and 11 points off the pace, the Gers need to find consistency, proving the team is improving and moving in the right direction. A home win is 2/7 (78% possibility) on the Betfred site and app.
Kilmarnock may have ridden their luck in that narrow win over Rangers, but few would grudge them the points that day. They were organised, hard-working, and patient, knowing a chance would eventually fall their way if they stayed in the match.
Killie got their rewards and will adopt a similar strategy on Wednesday. They must defend well and be sharp enough to hit on the counter. Back-to-back wins for Kilmarnock over Rangers this season is 10/1 (9% probability), with the draw worth a second look at 9/2 (18% chance).
Rangers -1 handicap
Our first bet at Ibrox is Rangers -1 goal on the handicap, and you can back that as a single or add the pick to your midweek multiples.
The home team’s scoring stats are poor ahead of round 14 of the season, with just 18 goals scored compared to the 40 of Celtic, but the locals will be desperate for revenge, and if they get ahead early, they could score a few.
Rangers may have lost their last game against Wednesday’s opponents, but the stats show they won 4-1 when Kilmarnock were last at Ibrox. Backing Rangers -1 goal would’ve landed you a profit in each of the last four meetings at this venue. Let’s hope the home team are fired up and give their fans something special to cheer.

Both score and Rangers win
Following the previous bet on Rangers -1 goal on the handicap at decent odds, we’re happy to push our luck a little further, backing both teams to score in a Rangers win. That would’ve been a winner when Killie were last in Govan, and we expect more of the same under the bright lights on Wednesday before a big crowd.
Focusing on the last three meetings at Ibrox, Rangers have beaten Kilmarnock 4-1 and 3-1 twice.
The hosts also conceded in Nice, at home to Dundee United, away to Olympiakos, and in a 2-1 win over Motherwell at Hampden in the League Cup semi-final last month.
As the manager continues to chop and change the backline, it’s difficult to trust the home defence, and Kilmarnock have the quality to ask questions.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
