PSG vs Borussia Dortmund Prediction: Mbappe can strike again

Having caused another upset in the first leg, Borussia Dortmund travel to Paris for the second leg of their Champions League semi-final with a one-goal lead, after Niclas Fullkrug scored the only goal of the game at Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday night. 

The German giants will be desperate to make it back to Wembley, the place where they narrowly lost the 2013 Champions League final at the hands of domestic rivals Bayern Munich. However, PSG and Kylian Mbappe stand in their way - still searching for their very first European crown. Below you can find my PSG vs Borussia Dortmund prediction, featuring team news and betting tips.

Team News

With this game coming just six days after the first leg, we may see two very similar line-ups, given how both teams played. Kylian Mbappe and Achraf Hakimi both hit the woodwork in the first leg and PSG did create plenty of chances, so there is a chance that Luis Enrique names the same XI. One possible change could see Randal Kolo Muani come in for youngster Bradley Barcola to lead the line, which would see Mbappe play from the left, where he is so dangerous. 

Dortmund now have a narrow lead to defend but we are unlikely to see too many changes from the XI that beat PSG 1-0 last week. Marco Reus announced he would leave the club this summer but is likely to be on the bench again, while Fullkrug’s goal has surely secured him a starting spot. A clean sheet will see them through, so all the attention will be on Mats Hummels and Nico Schlotterbeck at the back.

PSG are the favourites to win this game in 90 minutes, priced at 8/15 to do so. Dortmund can be backed for the win at 9/2 while a draw is available at 18/5. BTTS is priced at 8/13 and over 2.5 goals is 1/2.

I’m keeping things incredibly simple today. I want winners, and although the price isn’t the sexiest thing I’ve ever put forward, I think we will see goals at both ends in Paris. Borussia Dortmund are actually more free-flowing than you might expect, and even though they may set out to secure a clean sheet, I can’t see it happening. 

Both teams have found the net in five of their last six matches, with the first leg being the only exception to that trend. PSG were unfortunate not to find the net in that tie, and I don’t think we will see another shutout in the French capital, with Mbappe on top form. Both teams have scored in six of PSG’s last seven games, and they simply have to score. This should be another thrilling match-up. 

Kylian Mbappe to score anytime @ 8/13

The main man. A potential Ballon d’Or winner if things go his way at the Euros this summer, Mbappe has to step up in this massive game. He came so close to scoring in the first leg, and his record this season needs no explanation. He’s now on 43 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions and has eight goals from 11 Champions League outings. 

Dortmund are going to be trying to work out how to stop up, but given he is also on penalties, he is likely to find the net at some point. The best player in the world in my eyes, and the man who loves the big stage. Just look at what he produced in the World Cup final. Mbappe should find the net at some point.
