Wolves vs Crystal Palace Prediction: Can Edwards get Wolves off the mark?

Rob Edwards made the big leap from Middlesbrough to Wolves during the international break, and now the former defender will take charge of his first game back in the Premier League. Wolves host Crystal Palace (15:00), looking to give their survival hopes a boost after a dismal start to the season.

Team News
Wolves were hammered 3-0 by Chelsea before the international break and it will be interesting to see Edwards’ first line up. He prefers to play with a back three so expect that to continue, with Sam Johnstone and Jose Sa tussling it out for a start in goal.
Hugo Bueno could play at left wing-back, with Santiago Bueno likely to take his place in the back three. Jorgen Strand Larsen should start up top and Joao Gomes will feature in midfield. Other than that, we don’t really know what changes Edwards will make.
Crystal Palace are slightly more predictable, with Oliver Glasner set to stick with his 3-4-3 system. The forward line will be led by Jean-Philippe Mateta, and the French international will be supported by Ismaila Sarr and either Yeremy Pino or Jefferson Lerma in a more attacking role. Marc Guehi should be fit to return to the defence.
Wolves vs Crystal Palace Predicted Lineups
- Wolves - Sa; Toti, Krejci, S. Bueno; Tchatchoua, Andre, Gomes, H. Bueno; Munetsi, Bellegarde; Strand Larsen
- Crystal Palace - Henderson; Richards, Lacroix, Guehi; Munoz, Wharton, Kamada, Mitchell; Sarr, Lerma, Mateta
Wolves are the 3/1 underdogs for this fixture as they are yet to win a Premier League match in 2025/26. Crystal Palace are the 1/1 favourites giving them an implied win probability of 50%, while a draw can be backed at 5/2.
Over 2.5 goals is 1/1, BTTS is 4/5 and Mateta is 10/3 to open the scoring at Molineux.
Wolves vs Crystal Palace Stats
- Rob Edwards will take charge of his first league game at Wolves
- Wolves are yet to win a game this Premier League season
- Mateta has 6 goals in 11 Premier League games
Over 2.5 goals @ 1/1
I can see this game having plenty of goalmouth action. Edwards is going to want his team to make his first game a memorable one, and that means they are going to have to be more aggressive and front-footed than we have seen so far this season.
There is attacking talent in this side in the form of Strand Larsen, while Palace have one of the best strikers in the league in Mateta at their disposal, and they will want to make life tough for the hosts. Wolves have defensive issues, having conceded 25 goals in 11 games, while Palace will want to get those goalscoring numbers up in the league. I’m hoping for an open encounter with plenty of goals.

Bet Builder - Strand Larsen and Mateta to score, Lerma to get booked @ 11/1
Strand Larsen is going to be the key figure for Wolves if they are going to stay up this season, and he’s only got one goal in the Premier League so far this term. However, he has scored two in three in the Carabao Cup and I think Edwards will give this Wolves side a new attacking impetus during his first game.
Let’s back him to score in this Bet Builder, along with Mateta. The big Frenchman has scored six goals in 11 in the Premier League this term and is such a handful, while he has eight goals in all competitions. Let’s back him as well, and also back Lerma to get a yellow card. The midfielder has picked up two yellows in the league already and could be forced to make a foul or two at Molineux.
