Tottenham vs Brighton Prediction: Seagulls to swoop in on shoddy Spurs

Friday 17th April 2026, 15:00pm

Roberto De Zerbi's first game as Tottenham Hotspur head coach ended in a 1-0 defeat at Sunderland last Sunday, meaning his side head into Saturday's game against his former club Brighton & Hove Albion (17:30 BST, Sky Sports Main Event) in the relegation zone. Their opponents are ninth, just two points behind sixth-placed Chelsea after winning 2-0 at Burnley last weekend to make it five victories from their last six.

Below are my Tottenham vs Brighton predictions, supported by the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

Rodrigo Bentancur (hamstring) and James Maddison (ACL) trained with their Tottenham teammates on Wednesday as they continue their rehabilitation from their respective injuries, but neither is in contention to feature on Saturday.

Cristian Romero suffered a season-ending knee injury at Sunderland last Sunday, and the Spurs skipper joins Dejan Kulusevski, Wilson Odobert (both knee), Mohammed Kudus (muscle) and Ben Davies (ankle) in the Lilywhites treatment room.

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario could return, though, after recovering from a hernia problem.

Football Odds

Brighton will also be without their captain, Lewis Dunk, but not for injury reasons; instead, he is serving a two-game suspension for picking up his 10th yellow card of the Premier League campaign in a 2-1 victory over Liverpool last month.

Stefanos Tzimas and Adam Webster remain sidelined with knee injuries, while James Milner (unspecified) is doubtful after sitting out last Saturday's victory at Turf Moor.

Tottenham vs Brighton Predicted Lineups

  • Tottenham: Kinsky; Porro, Danso, Van de Ven, Udogie; Gray, Gallagher; Kolo Muani, Simons, Tel; Solanke
  • Brighton: Verbruggen; Wieffer, Van Hecke, Boscagli, Kadioglu; Ayari, Gross; Gomez, Hinshelwood; Minteh, Welbeck

Tottenham vs Brighton Odds

Tottenham, who have failed to win any of their last three games against Brighton, losing twice including last season's corresponding fixture, are 7/4 to secure their first league victory of the calendar year, implying a 36.4% probability of success.

September's reverse fixture finished 2-2, and another stalemate is priced at 11/4 - with the visitors offered at 7/5 (41.7% chance).

Tottenham vs Brighton Stats

  • BHA have won five of their last six PL games (L1), including their last three
  • TOT have lost nine of their last 12 PL matches (D3), including six of their last seven
  • Wieffer (BHA) has recorded two shots in his last two PL apps (scored twice v BUR last week)

Match Result - Brighton @ 11/8

Perhaps the De Zerbi effect will kick in this weekend, but when you're offered 11/8 to back one of the Premier League's most in-form sides, who have won five of their last six top-flight games, including their last three, to beat the 18th-placed club that has lost nine of its last 12 matches, drawing the other three, you take it all day long, in my opinion.

Spurs have been absolutely terrible for the majority of the season, and they've now lost their captain, Romero, for the rest of the campaign due to injury, further depleting their numbers.

Today's Football Fixtures

Brighton have picked up a solid 19 points from 16 away games this season, winning five times on the road, and they head to north London this Saturday having won three in a row on their travels. Two of the Seagulls' away victories have arrived in London, both in west, as they beat Chelsea 3-1 in September and Brentford 2-0 in February.

Fabian Hurzeler's side enjoyed their trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last season, winning 4-1 on the final day of the 2025/26 campaign, and considering the contrasting form of the two clubs, another away win looks likely this Saturday.

Player to Have 2 or More Shots - Mats Wieffer (BHA) @ 11/4

Mats Wieffer had only scored once in 46 Premier League appearances prior to last weekend, but his brace against Burnley doubled his account, and there were signs that he was feeling more confident in and around the opposition's penalty area.

The 26-year-old, bought from Feyenoord in the summer of 2024 as a midfielder, but often deployed by Hurzeler as a right-back, shot 11 times across his first 17 league appearances this season, but he's recorded seven across his last five, managing at least one in all five and two in his last two.

Wieffer has hit the target with four of those seven efforts this calendar year, so he could be worth backing to register a shot on target this Saturday, but I like his price to try his luck at least twice, with the end destination having no consequence.

Spurs were beaten 1-0 at Sunderland last Sunday, with the only goal of the game scored by the Black Cats' right-back Nordi Mukiele, with the Frenchman firing off four shots in total at the Stadium of Light.

The Lilywhites have conceded a high number of shots to full-backs in recent months; the last four teams they've played in the Premier League with a four-man defence have all seen at least one of their full-backs record 2+ shots against Spurs, and in Fulham's case, both (Kenny Tete and Ryan Sessegnon).
