Sunderland vs Burnley Prediction: Goals at both ends again?

Two newly-promoted teams that have had contrasting fortunes this term meet at the Stadium of Light on Monday night, as Sunderland host Burnley (20:00 GMT, Sky Sports Main Event).
The Black Cats need a point to climb back into the top half and above rivals Newcastle United, while Burnley are 10 points from safety. Below you will find my Sunderland vs Burnley predictions featuring team news and more.

Team News
Granit Xhaka is set to miss the next three weeks of action for Sunderland and the Black Cats badly missed him in the defeat to West Ham. 3-0 down at half-time, Reinildo Mandava, Trai Hume and Romaine Mundle were all taken off at half-time, and Noah Sadiki and Enzo Le Fee struggled in the midfield.
It means changes could be afoot from Regis Le Bris, with Habib Diarra a likely candidate to strengthen the midfield. Dennis Cirkin and Luke O’Nien could be brought into the back four, depending on how many changes Le Bris wants to make for this one.
Joe Worrall and Zian Flemming are back in contention for Burnley, which comes as a boost to Scott Parker. James Ward-Prowse has joined on loan from West Ham but needs more time to gain match fitness so the visitors may name an unchanged XI for the trip to the Stadium of Light, having drawn 2-2 with Spurs last time out.
Sunderland vs Burnley Predicted Lineups
- Sunderland - Roefs; Mukiele, Ballard, Alderete, Cirkin; Diarra, Sadiki; Hume, Le Fee, Talbi; Brobbey
- Burnley - Dubravka; Humphreys, Esteve, Tuanzebe; Walker, Ugochukwu, Florentino, Pires; Edwards, Anthony; Broja
Sunderland are the 4/5 favourites to win this one, giving them an implied win probability of 56%. A draw is 5/2 and a rare Burnley win can be backed at 4/1.
Over 2.5 goals is 6/5, BTTS is 11/10 and Brian Brobbey is the favourite to open the scoring at 4/1. Other Price Boosts and Bet Builders can be found on the link above.
Sunderland vs Burnley Stats
- Five of their last six Burnley games have ended with both teams scoring
- Both teams have now also scored in nine of their 11 away league games
- Brian Brobbey has scored three goals in his last four PL games
Both teams to score @ 11/10
What has perhaps gone under the radar recently is Burnley’s ability to get on the scoresheet. Five of their last six games have ended with both teams scoring, including a 1-1 draw at Anfield, and a couple of Desmonds against Manchester United and Spurs.
Going forward, Burnley’s 3-4-3 seems to be working, and they are now unbeaten in their last four games, drawing three in the league and beating Millwall handsomely in the FA Cup. Both teams have now also scored in nine of the 11 away league games the Clarets have played this term.
Given both teams have also scored in four of the last five Sunderland outings, I think this is a wonderful price on both teams to find the net on Monday night.

Brian Brobbey to score anytime @ 6/4
Brobbey has been in exceptional form lately and I think he is the best pick for a goalscorer on Monday night. He’s now scored three goals in his last four Premier League matches, including netting in that dismal display at the London Stadium last time out.
His manager had kind words for him in the pre-match press conference, saying: “Brian is getting better. He can fight, he can run, he can press and he can defend.
“He is getting more confident and building connections with his teammates, and he’s been scoring goals, which is really important, especially for a striker.”
Full of confidence, I think he can strike again against a Burnley defence that is seemingly unable to keep a clean sheet.
