The footballing feast that is December continues with another weekend of Premier League action where the first Wear-Tyne derby in a decade takes centre stage. Man City face a tough trip to Selhurst Park as they look to remain on Arsenal's coat-tails, while Mo Salah may bid farewell to Liverpool fans as the Reds host Brighton.

Dan Thomas has all the key stats to hand and the best betting angles as he brings us his Premier League Stats preview for GW16 with every selection at even-money or longer…

Premier League Stats & Best Bets for Week 16

  • Chelsea vs Everton
  • Saturday, 15:00

Key stat: Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is Everton's joint leading Premier League scorer this season with four goals. He has netted three goals in his last four games, as many as he'd scored in his previous 62 combined for Leicester, Chelsea and the Toffees.

Best bet: Chelsea have gone four games without a victory and have dropped more points from winning positions in Premier League home games than any other side this season, while Everton have won four of their last five. To that end, I'm keen to get a positive Toffees bet onside but, given they haven't won at Stamford Bridge in 30 attempts, I'll swerve the match odds. Instead, I'll back former Blue, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, to continue his recent hot streak and find the net at a chunky price. He never really got a chance in SW6 and will be desperate to make his mark.

  • Liverpool vs Brighton
  • Saturday, 15:00

Key stat: Liverpool haven't scored in the opening 45 minutes in any of their last five Premier League matches but there have been 23 goals in the last six meetings between these sides.

Best bet: The actual football may well be a sideshow on Saturday with all eyes on Mo Salah, but this has been one of the most entertaining match-ups in recent seasons and it should be a decent game with plenty of goalmouth action. Over 2.5 Goals is too short to back at 8/15, but with the Reds being slow out of the blocks in the past few weeks, we'll look at goals in the second 45 here. The second half being the highest scoring half is evens but we can get 7/4 on both sides scoring after the break and that's the selection.

  • Burnley vs Fulham
  • Saturday, 17:30
  • Live on Sky Sports

Key stat: Fulham are unbeaten in their last 11 Premier League games against promoted sides, winning each of the last four in a row, while Burnley have lost six matches on the bounce.

Best bet: It's been a tough return to the top flight for Burnley, with only the travails of Wolves keeping them off the bottom of the table. The Clarets are unbeaten in their last five Premier League matches against Fulham but historic facts can't hide the gap in quality between the two sides and Marco Silva's men - who won at Tottenham in their last away trip - should have too much quality. The evens on the away win is perfectly backable but we'll add in under 2.5 goals to boost it to 3/1 given the Cottagers haven't been prolific away from home season, scoring just six times.

  • Arsenal vs Wolves
  • Saturday, 20:00
  • Live on TNT Sports

Key stat: Wolves are winless in 19 Premier League games and have lost their last eight in a row, but they have gone in level at half-time in their past five games.

Best bet: Finding an angle in top vs bottom, when the better team are 1/8 in the match odds, is one of the tougher challenges for a column like this, but we are here to serve. Wolves remain stuck on two points despite the appointment of Rob Edwards but they are managing to be competitive in the first half of games at least. I was tempted by Draw/Arsenal in the HT/FT market at 11/4 but, given the disparity between the teams, we'll play it safe and back the second half to see more goals.

  • Crystal Palace vs Manchester City
  • Sunday, 14:00
  • Live on Sky Sports

Key stat: Crystal Palace have opened the scoring in the opening 10 minutes in four of their last six Premier League meetings with Man City but have failed to go on to win any of these.

Best bet: This has been one of the most entertaining fixtures in the Premier League in recent seasons, with both teams scoring at least twice in each of the last four meetings. Man City have won their last three top flight games, scoring at least three in each, and they should have enough to pick up three points here but with the Eagles having a tendency to fly out of the blocks, we'll take Pep Guardiola's men to win from behind. Oliver Glasner's troops have often tired late in games after midweek European action.

  • Nottingham Forest vs Tottenham
  • Sunday, 14:00
  • Live on Sky Sports

Key stat: Richarlison has been involved in more Premier League goals than any other Tottenham player this season (8: 6 goals, 2 assists). The Brazilian has scored 17 in his last 24 league starts for Spurs.

Best bet: Richarlison is one of the most fascinating players in the Premier League. A Brazil international with over 50 caps and 20 goals, including some of the best you'll see in tournament football, and who has already scored at least two 'goal of the season' contenders this campaign. Trouble is, he can also look like a competition winner who has never seen a football on occasion and has a tendency to rip his shirt off only for Spurs to then concede. But the Tottenham number 9 is a streaky player and we'll back him to continue his good scoring run against a Forest side who will have had two days' less rest than the visitors.

  • Sunderland vs Newcastle
  • Sunday, 14:00
  • Live on Sky Sports

Key stat: Eight of the last 11 matches between the sides have seen five cards or more, while Newcastle have both scored and conceded a goal in each of their last eight Premier League games.

Best bet: The first Wear-Tyne derby in over a decade promises to be a feisty affair in front of what will be a rocking Stadium of Light and we should see plenty of cards. But there's little value in the bookings lines - over 52.5 is only even money - so it makes sense to look at the player markets where the most obvious selection is Black Cats skipper Granit Xhaka. He's already been booked four times this season and will be keen to impress the home fans in his first derby. With both sides likely to be on the front foot, we'll double the Xhaka card with BTTS to give us a nice price of 11/4.

  • West Ham vs Aston Villa
  • Sunday, 14:00
  • Live on Sky Sports

Key stat: No team has conceded more second half goals than West Ham this season (18), while only Leeds and Newcastle have conceded more 90th minute goals than the Hammers (5).

Best bet: Aston Villa's turnaround - from no goals scored in the first four matches to title contenders - has been nothing short of ridiculous and they are looking for their 10th win in 11 at the London Stadium on Sunday. With West Ham winless in their last five Premier League games against Villa, even money on the away victory looks a solid option but, given the Hammers' vulnerability late in games, we'll take the bigger price on Unai Emery's men winning the second half.

  • Brentford vs Leeds United
  • Sunday, 16:30
  • Live on Sky Sports

Key stat: Five of Brentford's seven home games in the Premier League this season have seen four goals or more, while Leeds have seen the over 3.5 goals line breached in four of their last five matches.

Best bet: Daniel Farke's decision to switch to a 3-5-2 formation at half-time at Man City may be looked back at as one of the most inspired tactical moves of the season. They went on to 'win' the second half at the Etihad before beating Chelsea and rescuing a point against Liverpool having been 2-0 and 3-2 down. They face a tough challenge against a Brentford side who've won five of their seven home games, but both sides will give it a go and we'll back Over 3.5 Goals here.

  • Manchester United vs Bournemouth
  • Monday, 20:00
  • Live on Sky Sports

Key stat: Bournemouth have won their last two Premier League away games against Manchester United, beating them 3-0 both times, while the Red Devils have kept just one clean sheet in their 15 top flight games this season.

Best bet: Manchester United are in the European places after a decent run of form that has largely quietened the questions over Ruben Amorim ('crisis club' status has moved a few miles over to Liverpool). But their home form remains patchy, with a scratchy draw against West Ham last time out and an embarrassing defeat to Everton before that, and Bournemouth have taken a liking to Old Trafford in recent times. The Cherries' form has been less than stellar but 3/1 on a third consecutive victory at OT in a row is too big to ignore.
