Newcastle vs Brentford Prediction: Magpies can feel the sting of the Bees

Newcastle United have had a disappointing few weeks as they have won just one of their last seven matches in all competitions. They host Brentford at St. James' Park in the Premier League on Saturday (17:30 GMT, Sky Sports Main Event).
The Bees head here after an impressive victory at Aston Villa last time out and they have won three of their previous five fixtures in the top flight. Read on for my Newcastle vs Brentford predictions, supported by the latest match odds and team news.

Team News
Joelinton (groin), Tino Livramento (hamstring), Fabian Schar (ankle) and Emil Krafth (knee) are all ruled out for Newcastle through injury.
Anthony Gordon picked up a hamstring issue in Wednesday's Carabao Cuo defeat at Manchester City and is expected to miss out on Saturday. The Magpies need to assess captain Bruno Guimaraes and Lewis Miley (both ankle) ahead of the game.
Should Gordon miss out, Eddie Howe must decide whether to start former Brentford man Yoane Wissa or Nick Woltemade up front.
Brentford are missing Fabio Carvalho, Antoni Milambo and Josh Dasilva due to knee injuries. Keith Andrews will have to navigate the next three games without Kevin Schade in attack, following his red card at Aston Villa.
Mikkel Damsgaard will be pushing to return to the side after a brief knee problem of his own.
Newcastle vs Brentford Predicted Lineups
- Newcastle: Pope; Trippier, Thiaw, Botman, Burn; Willock, Tonali, Ramsey; Elanga, Wissa, Barnes
- Brentford: Kelleher; Kayode, Van den Berg, Collins, Henry; Yarmoliuk, Henderson, Jensen; Ouattara, Thiago, Lewis-Potter
Newcastle have won three of their last five home games in the league and they are 11/10 to claim a much-needed victory on Saturday.
The draw is on offer at 13/5, while Brentford are 5/2 (implied probability of 28.6%) to claim the three points, with the Bees winning three of their past four away trips in the top flight.
Newcastle's Wissa is 6/4 to score anytime against his former club.
Newcastle vs Brentford Stats
- Newcastle have 1 win in 7 matches in all competitions
- Brentford have won 3 of their last 4 away games in the PL
- Dan Burn was sent off in the reverse fixture
Draw No Bet - Brentford @ 11/8
Newcastle have looked lost without their skipper Guimaraes in recent weeks, and fans have been on Howe's back saying that he doesn't have a Plan B. Some supporters are starting to think the Englishman has taken the club as far as he can, while having spent a lot of money on players who have so far not helped the team take the next step.
This feels like a big game for Howe as one win in seven in all competitions is not good for a club with high ambitions. If Guimaraes misses out again, I think this could be another disappointing evening for the Magpies.
Brentford have improved greatly on their travels in recent months and they have won three of their previous four away trips in the Premier League. They managed to defeat title-chasing Villa with 10 men last week, so they shouldn't fear a Newcastle side who are struggling at a lot things right now.
The hosts are in need of a response and need to show some fight, but the Bees will be tricky customers. I think covering Brentford in the draw no bet market is a smart play here.

Player To Receive A Card - Dan Burn @ 18/5
Brentford won the reverse fixture 3-1 back in November. The poor evening for Newcastle was capped off by key defender Dan Burn getting sent off for taking down Dango Ouattara twice in west London.
The Englishman looks set for another tough battle against the Brentford attacker on Saturday, and the Burkina Faso international will undoubtedly hold the psychological advantage in this individual battle.
Ouattara scored the winner at Villa last time out, so he will pose a big threat to Newcastle's back line. He can skip past Burn with ease due to his pace and trickery, so I think Burn is an excellent price to get booked against the Bees for the second time this season.
He was also booked in last weekend's 4-1 hammering at Liverpool.
