Brighton Over 11.5 Total Shots
Chelsea Over 11.5 Total Shots
The two two legs are both about team total shots. Chelsea are averaging 13.91 per match in total and 12.56 in games away from Stamford Bridge.
Brighton are at 13.75 in games at the AmEx. Chelsea didn’t exactly pepper the Manchester United goal on Saturday and still had 20 attempts on goal. I’m expecting a fairly open game with Chelsea needing to come out and play if they are to keep in the Champions League chase and that should lead to plenty of shots.
Over 2.5 Goals
The Seagulls are actually one of the worst Over 2.5 Goals performing teams in the top flight at just 45%. The Blues are much better at 64%, with only Spurs and Newcastle better - both at 67%.
I like this leg for the same reason as before. The visitors’ can’t sit back as their poor recent form has made qualification for Europe’s premier club competition an uphill task. A draw just isn’t good enough for Liam Resenior’s men and that should in theory lead to a relatively open game.
Brighton Over 3.5 Total Corners
Another stat-based play as the hosts have only failed to to be awarded at least four corners once at home this calendar year - and even on that occasion they got three. No reason to think that run won’t continue tonight.
Liam Delap 2+ Fouls Committed
If Joao Pedro remains unavailable, it seems likely Liam Delap will continue up top. What might surprise you (other than his terrible goalscoring record) is that in four of his past five starts in the Premier League, he’s given away at least two fouls. He presses from the front and referees love to penalise attackers for cheap free kicks in non-dangerous areas of the field.
Jan Paul Van Hecke 1+ Total Shots
The Dutch defender has registered a shot in three of his previous four starts in the Premier League. He certainly isn’t prolific on this front, with just 21 from 32 matches but recently he’s been popping up in more forward positions. Adding this leg really boosts the price and feels like a stretch worth taking.
Double Chance (Brighton/Draw)
Chelsea are not in good form at the moment while Brighton have only tasted defeat in the top flight in the past two months - and that was to top-of-the-table Arsenal. Hedging the bets and taking the Double Chance keeps it as 16/1 rather than the 20/1 for taking the home side straight up but surely at some point Chelsea starts playing up to their potential, so adding the Draw to this leg gives us a bit of added leeway.
