Leicester City fans must be in pieces right now. Promotion, and indeed the title is still in their own hands, and if they win their remaining five games they will return to the Premier League. However, they put in a dismal showing in midweek as they lost 1-0 to Millwall, and now they face a difficult trip to Plymouth Argyle on Friday night. Live on Sky Sports Main Event, with kick-off at 20:00, Leeds and Ipswich fans will be tuning in with interest to see how their rivals fare.

Here is my Plymouth v Leicester prediction, as Enzo Maresca looks to get his Foxes back on track.

Plymouth vs Leicester Tips

  • Leicester to win and BTTS @ 7/4
  • Jamie Vardy to score anytime @ 6/5

Team News

Neil Dewsnip chose an unchanged Plymouth XI for the 1-1 draw with QPR and he could well name the same team here. However, Adam Forshaw and Mustapha Bundu came off the bench to good effect and could be thrown in, if the interim manager wants to freshen things up.

Leicester could also make changes after another disappointing defeat, however Patson Daka missed two crucial chances off the bench, and so Jamie Vardy may continue up front. Abdul Fatawa will likely come in for Yunus Akgun, while Tom Cannon, Ben Nelson, Harry Souttar and Kaey McAteer are absentees.

Match Odds

Plymouth are 9/2 to win this match on home soil, with Leicester the clear favourites at 1/2. That gives the Foxes an implied win probability of 66%, while a draw can be backed at 18/5. BTTS is available at 8/13, and over 2.5 goals is 1/2

Leicester to win and BTTS @ 7/4

Every ounce of logic suggests that Leicester could find things tough again in another tricky away game, especially one in which they have had a shorter recovery period than their opponents. However, Plymouth’s defence seriously concerns me, and up against one of the finest attacking outfits in the league, I simply cannot see the home side keep the Foxes at bay.

Leicester should be able to dominate this game, and looking at how many chances QPR created in midweek, Argyle are likely to be punished by superior opposition. I do believe the hosts will score however, 56% of their matches have ended BTTS and Leicester haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last six fixtures, while Argyle have found the net in three of their last four.

Jamie Vardy to score anytime @ 6/5

I still think Vardy is Leicester’s best number nine option, and his finishing ability is unquestionable. I believe the number of goalscoring chances the Foxes are going to get will be high against this shaky defence, and Vardy can capitalise, either from the start or off the bench.

Argyle have kept just one clean sheet in their last eight games, and that came against already-relegated Rotherham United. Leicester are near-certainties to score at Home Park, and I’m backing their number nine to find the net for the 17th time this season.
