South American qualifying continues in earnest this week as Peru host Venezuela on Wednesday morning, with kick-off at 02:00. Below we have previewed the match and given a couple of betting selections for you to consider as the international break comes to a close.

Peru vs Venezuela Tips

  • Venezuela to win @ 11/5
  • Venezuela to win to nil @ 18/5

Team News

Peru’s Luis Advincula will miss this qualifier through suspension having picked up another yellow card on Thursday night. Meanwhile, Aldo Corzo is set to make his 50th appearance, filling in at right-back. Christian Cueva remains out for the hosts.

Venezuela’s 35-year-old captain Tomas Rincon is going to miss this clash after picking up a hamstring injury in their goalless draw with Ecuador. Philadelphia Union midfielder Jose Martinez will also miss this clash through suspension as head coach Fernando Batista comes to terms with two big absentees.

Match Odds

Peru are priced at 5/4 to win this match, with Venezuela 11/5 to take all three points. A draw is available at 15/8, while BTTS is 11/10 and over 2.5 goals is 13/8.

Venezuela to win @ 11/5

I’m slightly surprised at the market ahead of this game. For me, Venezuela should be clearly priced as favourites having gone unbeaten in their last four qualifiers. Their 0-0 draw at Ecuador last time out wasn’t anything special, but they’ve drawn with Brazil and hammered Chile in recent weeks to put themselves fourth in the group.

On the other hand, Peru have been absolutely tragic so far. Their 2-0 defeat to lowly Bolivia means that they have now lost all four qualifiers without scoring a single goal. From what we have seen so far, they are the worst team in South America, and it isn’t even close right now.

The 11/5 on Venezuela to win this one is well worth taking advantage of.

Venezuela to win to nil @ 18/5

To push the boat out even further based on the same logic, Venezuela to win to nil is a huge 18/5. They are playing a side that hasn’t scored in this qualification campaign, and hasn’t found the net in their last five matches in total. Peru haven’t scored since June and their attack is as toothless as they come.

Meanwhile Venezuela have kept three clean sheets in their last four matches and only conceded to a talented Brazil team. This should be a comfortable away win for the visitors, with a clean sheet to boot.
