Newly-promoted Burnley are still searching for their first win of the Premier League season and they feature on Monday Night Football as they travel to Nottingham Forest for an 8pm kick-off. Below we preview the match from a betting perspective to try and pick out some value.

Nottingham Forest vs Burnley tips:

  • Nottingham Forest to win at 11/10
  • Taiwo Awoniyi to score 2+ goals at 17/2

Team news:

Forest’s Orel Mangala played for Belgium over the international break, while Ibrahim Sangare Ivory Coast match was postponed at half-time due to poor weather. That means the Forest squad have come through unscathed, while Wayne Hennesey has recovered from a knee injury.

Meanwhile Burnley can welcome back Anass Zaroury after he served his three match suspension for a red card. Hjalmar Ekdal could miss this one after picking up an injury while Aaron Ramsey should be fit after missing the Tottenham match with concussion.

Nottingham Forest to win

The two met at the City Ground just two weeks ago in the EFL Cup, when Burnley secured a 1-0 win over a much-changed Forest side. However, since then Steve Cooper has masterminded a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge, and his side look like a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League this term.

They were narrowly beaten at the Emirates and unlucky to lose at Manchester United, but they have beaten Chelsea and Sheffield United. That 2-1 win over the Blades was their only home game of the season and they’ve come through a rough start on paper with a lot of credit.

Unlike last season, the squad seems more settled despite another batch of new signings, and this Forest team finally seems to believe it belongs in the top flight. Meanwhile Burnley have been beaten by Manchester City, Tottenham and Aston Villa in an equally tricky start to their season, but confidence must be low around Turf Moor.

Vincent Kompany’s squad are more than good enough to stay up, and against weaker opposition at home they should be able to flourish. However, this one might just be too tough for them to get anything.

Taiwo Awoniyi to score 2+ goals

Forest have a new main man. After the exit of Brennan Johnson to Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day, Awoniyi has become their talisman. The Nigerian striker was hit and miss at times last term, but he’s come on leaps and bounds over the summer. He’s already scored three league goals in four matches, with one of those goals coming at Old Trafford and one at the Emirates. That tough opposition hasn’t stopped him, and against a Burnley defence that conceded five against Spurs, he could have a field day. 17/2 on him to score at least two is tempting.
