Newcastle United do battle with Manchester City at St James' Park in the Premier League on Saturday (12:30, TNT Sports 1), looking to bounce back from their poor performance at Fulham last weekend.

City salvaged a late draw at home to 10-men Arsenal but they have been struck a blow in the injury picked up by Rodri, which will see him miss a significant amount of the season. Read on for my Newcastle vs Man City prediction, accompanied by the latest match odds and team news.

Newcastle vs Man City Betting Tips

  • Man City and both teams to score @ 7/4
  • Erling Haaland to score 2+ goals @ 100/30

Newcastle vs Man City Odds

Newcastle are 4/1, or a 20% chance, to get back to winning ways here. Man City are valued at 3/5, giving them an implied probability of 62.5%. The draw is available at 3/1 (25%).

Both teams to score is marketed at 8/15 and over 2.5 goals can be backed at 1/2.

Man City striker Erling Haaland has 10 goals from his first five appearances in the top-flight this season. He is 4/6 to score anytime, or 9/4 to be the first man on the scoresheet on Saurday.

Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes has three for himself, and he is priced at 11/4 to find the back of the net at any stage during this contest.

Team News

Forward Callum Wilson is still not yet deemed fit to return to action for Newcastle, while Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles remain as the Magpies' two long-term injuries. Lewis Miley is also in the treatment room with an ankle issue.

Striker Alexander Isak was a doubt to feature last week due to a slight problem but he ended up starting at Fulham last weekend, so he should be okay to lead the line once again.

As Newcastle's performances haven't been convincing in the Premier League so far, Eddie Howe could be tempted to make a few tweaks for the visit of the defending champions. Sandro Tonali could be in consideration for a start in midfield, possibly coming in for either Joe Willock or Joelinton.

Tino Livramento could return to the lineup as the starting right-back in place of Kieran Trippier. Howe might feel that the former's pace would be better-equipped up against Jeremy Doku, although he could also value Trippier's vast experience.

Lewis Hall will be pushing for a return at left-back, but Lloyd Kelly's physical presence might keep him out of the starting XI again.

Rodri's absence will be a huge blow for Man City as they bid to claim their fifth consecutive Premier League crown, as the stats show they are at their best when he is in the team. As a result, Mateo Kovacic will have to step up to partner Ilkay Gundogan in midfield.

Also in the treatment room are Oscar Bobb and Nathan Ake, with the latter being eyed up for a return to action next month. Kevin De Bruyne has been left out of the last two squads following a knock he picked up against Inter Milan last week, it remains to be seen if he will return against the Magpies.

Jack Grealish had an impact against Arsenal and played a pivotal role in the late equaliser, so he could be in contention to start at St James' Park.

Man City and both teams to score @ 7/4

With Rodri out the picture, Newcastle may be sensing an opportunity to record a statement win on home soil. However, I can't see that being the case. The Magpies have been consistently poor in the Premier League so far and can count themselves lucky that they were picking up points along the way.

The result at Fulham wasn't a surprise because it felt like a long time coming. Howe has a good crop of players at his disposal and for some reason isn't getting the best out of them at the moment.

Rodri or no Rodri, City should be able to beat this disorganised mess fairly comfortably on Saturday. The only silver lining for Newcastle is that the Spaniard's absence just betters their chances of getting on the scoresheet.

City may have also had a poor showing in their last league outing, yet they still managed to come away with a point against their closest title rivals. All their other performances so far have been more than convincing, so I expect them to get back to winning ways here because they are stacked for quality all over the pitch.

Backing the Citizens to win at 3/5 isn't very valuable, so I have added both teams to score to land a more enticing price.

Erling Haaland to score 2+ goals @ 100/30

This man is inevitable when it comes to getting on the scoresheet. Haaland has 100 goals for Man City now in just 105 appearances for the club which is just obscene. It feels like it won't be long for him to rack up his second century for the club.

With 10 goals in his first five games, he is averaging two per game and if he keeps that form up he could be on track for an extraordinary tally of 76 come May. Of course it would take something truly magical for a player to get that many, but if there was one person you thought could get close, it's him.

The Norwegian has scored two or more in three of his five Premier League appearances this term, including hat-tricks against Ipswich Town and West Ham United. I think he could be in line for another profitable afternoon up on Tyneside with Newcastle not looking particularly strong at this moment in time.

Their back line is yet to be really tested this season and they are about to face the toughest one they can get against City. Haaland looks unstoppable right now so I think backing him to score a brace could be a smart play in this lunchtime kick-off.
