Manchester City begin life without Rodri with a tricky trip to Newcastle United in Saturday's early Premier League game (12:30, TNT Sports 1). The Spaniard limped off in last Sunday's 2-2 draw with Arsenal with a potentially season-ending knee injury and tactics boffins have been scratching their heads figuring out how the visitors will cope with his absence.

Manchester City to win

City drew 2-2 against Arsenal but had almost all of the play in the second half and Newcastle are unlikely to produce a defensive low block as disciplined as the Gunners.

The Magpies have won only one of their last 33 league games against City and, despite producing some excellent spells in all of their matches, have looked ragged at times.

Results had been covering for their poor performances ahead of the defeat at Fulham and their current form suggests they won't be improving their record against Saturday's opponents.

Both teams to score

Still, it sets up as an entertaining game, with Newcastle scoring in all six of their competitive fixtures this season.

City, meanwhile, have kept just a single clean sheet in the league and can be got at.

This fixture finished 3-2 in City's favour last season, following on from a 3-3 in 2022/23, and with Newcastle's best play coming on the front foot, don't be surprised to see goals for both teams.

Erling Haaland to score

Erling Haaland's form means City can afford the odd slip-up at the back.

The Norwegian's strike against Arsenal took his tally for the new Premier League season to 10 in just five matches and the increased variation he has shown in his finishing has only added to his threat.

Haaland seems unstoppable and will look forward to facing a Newcastle defence still without long-term absentee Sven Botman.

Bruno Guimaraes to be booked

A player City have been potentially tipped to sign in January, should Rodri's injury be as serious as feared, is Bruno Guimaraes and he will be at the heart of things on Saturday on both sides of the ball.

The 26-year-old has already been booked twice this season and received yellows in all five Premier League appearances against the Citizens and an EFL Cup tie.

With City lacking Rodri's control, they may aim to stretch the play and goad Guimaraes into another booking.
