Newcastle United vs West Ham United Prediction: Long night for Emerson at St James’ Park

Monday night football in the Premier League comes from Tyneside this week, with a resurgent Newcastle United hosting an under-pressure West Ham United side at St James' Park (20:00, Sky Sports Main Event). The Magpies have won their last three games in all competitions, beating Chelsea 2-0 in the Carabao Cup before completing back-to-back league victories at home to Arsenal (1-0) and away to Nottingham Forest (1-3).
The Irons, meanwhile, are yet to taste success this month, losing 3-0 at Forest on November 2 before being held to a goalless draw in east London by Everton. Below you can find my Newcastle United vs West Ham United prediction, complete with all the latest team news and match odds.
Newcastle United vs West Ham United Betting Tips
Team News
Newcastle United are without the suspended Dan Burn, who serves a one-game ban for an accumulation of yellow cards. Lloyd Kelly looks like the obvious replacement for Burn as a left-footed centre-back.
Sven Botman, Emil Krafth and Jamaal Lascelles are still out injured, while it remains to be seen whether Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson are fit enough to return to the squad after lengthy absences for Eddie Howe's side.
Like Newcastle, West Ham United have a key player suspended in Mohammed Kudus, who is serving a much lengthier sentence of five games, with one more to go after Monday.
Mexican midfielder Edson Alvarez is back from a ban, though, after sitting out the 0-0 stalemate with Everton prior to the international break as a result of his red card in the defeat at Forest. Alvarez could replace Guido Rodriguez in the middle of the park, or one of Lucas Paqueta or Crysencio Summerville if head coach Julen Lopetegui opts for even more solidity.
German forward Niclas Fullkrug is still injured, however.

Newcastle United are 1/2 to make it three Premier League wins on the spin, giving Monday's hosts an implied probability of 66.7%, while West Ham United are 11/2, or a 15.4% chance, to claim all three points in the north east.
The draw is priced at 18/5, both teams to score at 8/13, and over 2.5 total goals at 1/2.
Newcastle striker Alexander Isak (10/11) leads the anytime goalscorer market with Irons skipper Jarrod Bowen (3/1) first up for the visitors.
Handicap - Newcastle United -1 @ 5/4
Despite losing just two of their last six games on Tyneside, I'm really struggling to come up with many good reasons for West Ham extending their good record at St James' Park.
The Irons look lost under Lopetegui and haven't scored yet in November, blanking against Forest and Everton, and they now face a side that has kept out both Chelsea and Arsenal in their last three matches in all competitions.
Newcastle wobbled in October, failing to win a Premier League contest as they were held to a goalless draw at Everton, lost 1-0 at home to Brighton & Hove Albion, and were edged out 2-1 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. A 2-0 victory over the Blues in the Carabao Cup three days later was the start of a three-game win streak, however, and Howe should be confident of his side making it four victories in a row on Monday.
Two of those three wins - against Chelsea and Forest - have seen the Magpies win by two goals, and that's what we need to land this first selection against West Ham.
The visitors have suffered six defeats in all competitions under Lopetegui and five of them have seen them lose by at least two goals - the 2-1 home reverse to Aston Villa on the opening day of the campaign proving to be the outlier so far.
Forest beat them by three in their last away game, Tottenham Hotspur (4-1) the same before that, while they've also suffered heavy league defeats at home to Manchester City (1-3) and Chelsea (0-3), as well as being thrashed 5-0 by Liverpool at Anfield in the Carabao Cup.
At 5/4, I'm taking the hosts to beat the -1 handicap on Monday.

Player to Receive a Card - Emerson Palmieri (WHU) @ 16/5
I'm always looking to take on a player card for whoever has to line up directly against Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, and given Emerson's fouls and yellows record this season, I'm backing the West Ham left-back to pick up a booking on Tyneside.
Emerson has already been cautioned three times in the Premier League this season and is on course to get close reach or surpass the 10 he received in the competition in 2023/24.
He averaged 0.9 fouls per game last season and is up to 1.1 per game this term, so he's certainly not been dissuaded by his poor disciplinary record.
Gordon, meanwhile, is being fouled an average of 2.6 times per game in the Premier League, up from 1.9 per game last season. He usually operates on the left-hand side of the Newcastle attack but has been deployed on the right recently, with Joelinton starting on the left instead.
He's sure to be running at Emerson every opportunity he gets on Monday and I can see it being a long night for the Brazilian-born Italy international, who looks good value to be shown a card - of any variety - at 16/5.
